Good home-food (west indian)
Good home-food (west indian)
Anyone know of a restaurant that cooks good West Indian food on STJ? Not looking for the hybridized cuisine, but the true homefood of the VI: fish & fungi, breadfruit, johny cakes, and souse. Last time I was there, there was only one restaurant that had local food, but the lunch cart lady had made a mean mixture with breadfruit, fish, and fungi. It's been a few years since I've been on STJ, so if you know, pls don't keep it a secret

Fire Foods is a food truck located at the Coral Bay intersection. It's Ital food--they have vegan foods and also fish dishes, plus lots of local juices. If you are coming from Cruz Bay you turn right at the intersection to get to it, and it will be right there on your left. They put out awnings when they are open.
It's like looking in your soup and finding a whole different alphabet.

A few more to add to the list...
P&P By the Sea, out on the point past Coconut Coast STUDIOS.
Forward to Your Roots-turn right on the road before the basketball courts across from the gas station. It's a little bit down on the right. This place is mostly "Ital" but they do have fish sometimes.
The one at the old Pickles spot is Owen's Happy Hour and they have awesome food.
A Taste of Love City Mobile Kitchen- across from the car barge entrance.

To add to the list:
In Cruz Bay, Patrick's truck/stand in the parking lot across from the post office. Mooie's is a good place to have a drink and a local experience.
In Coral Bay, in addition to Fire Foods, there's another truck/stand operation at the triangle and the Sputnik Bar sometimes has food. The Sputnik is also a good place to stop for a drink and a very local experience.
