Looks nice. When I saw your post title I thought it was a typo. Anyone know what's with the name?

If you read the description on the villa's rental site, it says that "blue bitch" is a type of stone native to the VI. Who knew?? The place looks really cool.

Maybe from the blue stone found on the island...
"The well known Easter Rock, found just off the North Shore road just west of Peace Hill, is a Water Island rock which was broken off and cast up on the hillside; a good example of the violence and power of the Louisenhoj era. Also evident from those times are the dark blue cobblestones that make up some of St. John's beaches. The local name of this type of very hard rock derives from the cobbles found on these beaches which has been corrupted from "blue beach" to "blue bitch", possibly because of the difficulty incurred in excavating areas were this rock must be removed."

When you're building a home on St. John the last words you want to hear are "blue bitch". When our builder gave us a reasonable estimate on the excavation costs he appended the estimate with the words "unless we hit the blue bitch". We/he did (our costs doubled), and I'm guessing the owner/builder of this villa did as well... Great name...

Randy is right! You don't want to hear that you have a lot of it on your property during excavation. $$$$$$$! However, on the upside, the bb is an exquisite color and looks wonderful in stone walls, showers, etc.

5 days and definitely counting...

We're staying there in June and can't wait! The owners seem very nice and the property looks fantastic!

Great looking place. I have it stored for later.

The discription says that "the walls are constructed of 12 inch thick bluebitch."

I learned something new! (I guess I could have read the description more carefully. I'm a look-at-the-pictures kind of gal unless I'm researching for a trip.) Funny name! I know if we ever stayed there, my kids would bleep out or mute the 'bitch' part, as in "Are we going back to Blue mmphh now?" They are well trained... at least for now, at least within my earshot!

And for sure it would lead to some (stupid) jokes with our friends after a few beverages at the beach. As in, "I love Maho, but I'm goin' back to ma bitch now."
