Booked for Peter Island - some questions
Greetings! We are booked on Peter Island in the BVIs for June to celebrate our anniversary (bid through Luxury Link). I thought I would ask this forum some questions regarding Peter Island since there seems to be many well-traveled people.
If anyone has stayed on PI, I would love to hear about your experience. I have read a lot of reviews on-line and talked to a friend who stayed there when he was selling exercise equipment to resorts.
I have a question about appropriate attire in the nice restaurant for those who have visited there. We have been going to very casual places (STJ and VG) for quite a few years and haven't had a need to bring dressy clothes and "real shoes" for my husband.
The website says "In the Tradewinds dining and lounge areas after 6 p.m., ladies wear elegant casual clothing, while gentlemen wear collared shirts and slacks, however, jeans, tennis shoes, and open toed shoes are not appropriate for men's evening wear. Sport coats and ties and cocktail dresses are optional."
My husband loves to wear his Hawaiian style shirts and has some that are nicer - silk and toned down pattern. Would these be considered as a "collared shirt" or does he need to bring regular button up the front collared shirts? PI said the casual restaurant on the beach will be open some nights for dinner, and we can wear shorts there.
Regarding "ladies wear elegant casual clothing", I have some nice cotton summer long dresses. I was trying to decide if long dresses are (1) in style this year, and (2) necessary for PI, or just my knee length summer dresses would be appropriate. I'm not sure exactly what the combination of "elegant" and "casual" means.
We are still trying to decide where to stay for 5 days on Tortola prior to going to PI. Thinking about Icis Villas, based on some info from RickG a while back. The forum is so helpful with info.
Thanks for any info!

Yes, his shirts are fine...perfect really. Pair of loafers for shoes though. No open toes allowed on mens feet! No sandals or flips. Your clothing is great also. You can wear sandals though. Haven't stayed there myself, but have a number of clients who have.
Enjoy...wondering how this lux thing works...can you PM on specifics. Thanks much!!

Hoping for a USVI ticker in 2013!
Hi, I've only ever had lunch at Peter Island, but definitely have a feel for the flavor there. Think "resort chic" and you've got your answer.
It's the kind of place that attracts people who enjoy (and feel most comfortable) dressing up, especially at night. Your dresses sound perfect (it is so much easier to be a woman)!
Your husband will probably be happy if he brings a nice-looking, comfortable pair of lightweight long pants that will look great with his Hawaiian shirts, which sound fine.

We stayed on PI about 6 years ago. We flew into St. Thomas and took their ferry to the island. We only stayed 3 nights but we really liked the island. It is very quiet since the resort is the only thing on the island. There were either honeymooners or older couples. During the day you can wear your bathing suit with a cover-up and for men a swimsuit and a shirt. For dinner, any collared shirts will do. We thought the food was very good. Be sure to do the "sunset at the loop" if they still over it. It was a great way and view to see the sunset.
