St. John Bar and Restaurant ( in the old Pickles location)?

Post by Diana2 »

Has anyone been there and can tell us more about it i.e. menu, quality of the food? Is this place still in business?

Hubby goes out there.... You can get some really good West Indian food there, drinks, big screen tv. Great place to hang with the locals. Hubby likes to play dominoes with his friends, have some good quality "guy" time. Two of the guys who do the fish fry/beach party out at Hansen Bay are running the place now.

sounds like a great place. we want to go to the places that are more for locals than tourists. even though we're tourists, like to meet & talk with the people who live in the place we're visiting. "Go behind the scenes" so to speak. One question,do they serve reg. foods too? Hubby loves spicy but not my tummy.
Thank you. You & Pia have been such a help to us newbies and are making our trip so much more exciting w/all your advice & tips.
Hope to meet you both, will meet Pia, she's going to be our "neighbor" & want to meet her dogs.

Unfortunately, from outside, the place is not looking inviting. If you want to have a conversation with locals, you better speak Spanish since most of them are from Dominican Republic. Despite the curb appeal, we did stop there and had lunch. They don't have formal menu - you just come to the kitchen window and see what's cooking. I had poached fish - fresh and very yummy, DH had fried rice with pork - he also enjoyed it. Both were served with fresh salad, white rice and veggies. You don't know how much you are going to pay, since prices are not listed. We were charged $25, which seamed like average price for the nice lunch. It is a new place that is trying to take off and they could use some business. Quality of food is very good.

I wonder if Owen is the Owen that had Cases by the Sea, right up the road?
