Olympics...got a fav?
Anyone got a favorite team or individual they're looking out for?
I'm cheering for our local CO downhill girl. I'm hoping her injury will not hurt her.
But I fav the figure skating sports being a pro figure skating person myself in my younger years. Yes I met Dorothy and Peggy. I taught more than show skated. Better money.
Winter sports are so fun to watch. I love the extreme sports.

I too like the curling because it's so odd. We get exposed being so close to Canada. I'm guessing people in the deep south are going, "What the hell is that?".
I was rooting for our womens freestylist from Vermont Hannah Kearney and she won the gold. I though that was awesome. I was watching the men tonight. Brutal on the knees....

Curling...curling...curling.
Working from home means I'll have NBC on all day and will stare at curling like a baby watching a mobile. By the end of things, I can almost talk about how the game works. I love it.
The Snowboard cross is also a lot of fun because I root for mayhem. Don't look at me that way...I didn't root for the luge track the other day. I root for people top fall down and then have to try to complete races on one ski while frantically whipping other people with their equipment. It's also why I love short track speed skating.
Speaking of which:
Ways to improve the Olympics:
Nordic Combined:
The Mrs and I had this thought: Know in a Triathalon how they run out of the water and then change and start biking? Let's do that. You finish the jump and then immediately start skiing. BUT! You only get one set of skis. So you're either jumping on those wee little cross country skis or skiing on those huge jumping things.
My father improved upon it: Start the skiing part, but at random intervals, the ground drops away to reveal a ski jump. You do it in line...and if there are like 20 people jumping at once...all the better!
Biathalon: I love the the lap of shame you need to do after a miss...but it could be better. Make them take a lap through the shooting range. It does 2 things: makes you want to shoot better because who wants to get shot? AND...you could purposely miss and take bullets from a competitor just to slow him down.
I detest figure skating but know that it's the golden calf of ratings and thusly...must suffer through it

I am a huge figure skating fan. Was very proud as a teen that I shared a name with Janet Lynn. Had a huge crush on John Misha Petkevich.
I hope to see our ladies kick butt as one of them said after Nationals. We need to get that team back to 3. Would love to see our men take all of the medals. They've got the talent. Did not understand some of the scores from last nights pairs short program.
I also love watching ski jumping - I guess it goes back to the old "Wide World of Sports" agony of defeat.

The Olympics always bring back good memories of my childhood.
We were a big skiing family so we were all glued to the TV for those events. My mom and I loved the ice skating and I can remember "skating" around the living room with magazines taped to my feet. My dad would dance and leap between the kitchen and living room, poking fun at the men.
I need to get up to date on what is going on.

Skating around the living room with magazines taped to your feet! I laughed so hard.
I used to strap on the two blades and skate ponds on the farm until my dad enrolled me in lessons. Little did he know what that was going to lead to and how expensive it was going to be. $250/each pair of skates twice a year, plus ice time and lessons in Canada. We lived 20 mins from the border. Best coaches were in Canada. He never complained.
My better half is a hockey nut. He tried a salchow on hockey skates once and broke his knee cap. Never did that again!
There could be a new sport for the summer olympics:

Curling is actually extremely difficult. I used to love to dig the ice up before they resurfaced for the curling folks. My bad!
