Orbitz notice
Orbitz notice
Well my Orbitz "there has been a change to your flight itinerary" notices have begun....hate them...puts a lump in my throat before I open them...
For now, leaving Boston half hour earlier on the way there, and leaving STT 1.5 hours earlier on the way back. Sure to not be the last time it changes....

I used Orbitz for the first time this year and have had the same thing happen.
Any advice: My flight home has been rerouted through JFK in New York. Are seats are not assigned and I have been assured we can get seats together when we get to STT. I'm nervous as I do not love to fly and want my children to be able to sit with at least one parent each.

Do other flight websites do the same thing? I know I had a problem with them changing a flight to something impossible. They had my connecting flight leaving before my first flight got to the airport.
Then, they charged me $150 when I "changed" my flight to something that would actually work. It took quite awhile and a few e-mails and phone calls to get that money back. What is the best website or airline to use? I am going to be booking some tickets soon.

I usually check Orbitz, Expedia, etc. for flights and prices and then book directly with the airlines. I've always gotten the same or better deal when it's the same airline both ways.
As for changes, they "usually" stop 90 days out. On occasion they work in your favor (like a flight that gets there earlier), more often not. Our return flight changed from departing STT at 10am to 9am. Can you spell 6am ferry? I'm considering paying the fee to move to a later flight.
With FF's a couple of years ago, AA changed my itinerary to include a 10 hour layover in San Juan (the original connection was cancelled). I was able to call and talk to a sensible woman who re-routed me through Miami (from Boston) - with no fee. Miracles do happen.
I think others here have had experiences opposite from mine.
Good Luck - I would certainly keep emailing/calling. Sooo frustrating!

I did contact the airline and got the same answer. They did tell me that they put a notation on my reservation that we needed to sit together but I am not relying on that. Had similar thing happen when my kids were 6 and were seated next to strangers on a flight that landed at midnight with the same airline. It was like pulling teeth to get them each next to one parent. I booked our seats together in both instances but their changes bumped us from our assigned seats. My kids are now 14.sailorgirl wrote:Try contacting the airline direclty to get a seat assignment, or get there as early as possible. I would hope they would accmmodate a child and parent. How old are your kids?
Check out http://www.Kayak.com to search for flights. It checks every airline except Southwest. I use it weekly and it is a big help.
Then book directly with the airline, if there are issues with your flight when you are traveling it will always be easier to get help directly through the airline so make sure the phone number is saved in your phone.

I've learned my lesson. I only booked through Orbitz because the flights cost us $2500 for 4 people. I took the chance there might be a price drop which Orbitz would automatically credit. They also allowed me to book an overnight stay flight as a connecting flight which the other websites did not allow. Not sure why.
