Maho camps~
Maho camps~
Found this review from May 2009..Does this sound like an accurate view of Maho? Was looking into the work exchange program but not really looking for a moldy, rusty experience~Anyone been lately that can verify if this is accurate?

Maho management has let this, once picturesque and innovative eco-resort, go. Mold permeates through the walls, and the white tarps are littered with animal deposits and rust that happily greets you in the sunlight (I later learned they are going through an intense legal battle over ownership of the property).
Evidently the raison d'tre at Maho is not the pristine eco-resorts, but the resorts proximity to private, immaculate beaches.
Nonetheless, if you are looking to meet great people, stay in the cheapest location on St. John, and relax by the beach knowing that you aren't contributing to global warming, this is the place to be.

I walked through there in November and it looked.... the same. There was evidence of maintenance to walkways, building and tents, but nothing new. The tent/cabins are in the trees, in the weather and the proximity of animals.
A lot of people show up at Maho Campground and expect something other than a camping experience. This is not Holiday Inn Express, but it is very nice camping. I'd say the amenities are better than Cinnamon Bay, but not as nice as Concordia.
Cheers, RickG
