You can get one here:

Yes this is shameless self promotion... but they are offering a 10% commission which would be huge right now.
And - it promotes reading!

ooooh...want! Maybe I should break down and buy it...I owe amazon. They accidentally shipped me an extra 32G ipod touch at Christmas that they did not charge me for.
Is there a link to your amazon commission page that I could turn into an internet favorite? John and I buy tons of stuff on amazon, but I almost always forget to come here and link through the forum before buying.

It's like looking in your soup and finding a whole different alphabet.
Hi! I love my kindle! If you are tempted and have any questions please ask!
I really love it that no one knows what I am reading. I took it on our last trip in my purse and read in the airport, on the plane, and at the resort. I was able to easily order more books after I finished the ones that I ordered for vacation. Have you ever finished all you reading materials half way through vacation?? My oldest finished his reading materials on this trip so I let him use it and I read his Dan Brown book.
There is a push to put text books on kindle. Wouldn't that be great?! Right now my HS son's book bag is so heavy!! This week is finals week and he has every book in there.
Also, I can change the size of the print. That is especially nice when I am getting tired. There is a option to have it read outloud but I don't use that.

Thoughts on the Amazon Kindle
The Kindles are pretty cool. A friend of mine just got one and I'm a little bit jealous (not that I'd ever admit it to her - lol).
However, I am a bit critical of Amazon's DRM/content-distribution policy. There is no way (that I know of) to put your own content on a Kindle. Meaning that if you have an eBook that you purchased from a different content-provider, generated yourself, was given to you, or otherwise did not come from Amazon... You are 's.o.l.'.
Personally, I find the Stanza app on the iPhone is a great way to read eBooks. iPhones make awesome eBook-readers for the average user and with Stanza, you can add any content that you like - regardless of the source.
The only drawback to this method is that users with poor eyesight have a hard time with the iPhone. However, the Stanza app has some cool features to mitigate this problem such as zoom-capabilities, contrast controls and a color-inversion / negative mode (white-text on a black background).
Also, if you've already shelled-out $200-$400 for an iPhone and don't feel like shelling-out another $200 for the Kindle (or whatever they cost these days), Stanza is completely free.

It is strange that this topic has come up. I have been discussing this with my husband for the last two weeks. He tells me to go ahead and order it but I am a little hesitant. I read every night before I go to sleep so I know I would use it a lot but I have a few questions:
1-There is no back light so you have to have another light source to read in bed at night correct?
2-Have any of you purchased a clip on type light and does it work well?
3-How much are the books you order?
4-Have you tried to transfer a word document from your computer to your kindle?
5-Is it hard to read? I have gotten to that magic age of having to use reading glasses.
6-How is it reading outside in sunlight?
7-Have you experienced any problems with the kindle?
8-Does it seem flimsy to you?
9-Did you buy any of the accesories for it?
10-Did you buy the extented warranty?
11-Are you glad you bought it?
Sorry for all of the questions!
Thanks!

1-There is no back light so you have to have another light source to read in bed at night correct? Yes.
2-Have any of you purchased a clip on type light and does it work well? I have the M-Edge e-Luminator, which works with my M-Edge Kindle jacket.
3-How much are the books you order? So far they have been around $6-$8.
4-Have you tried to transfer a word document from your computer to your kindle? Not yet.
5-Is it hard to read? I have gotten to that magic age of having to use reading glasses. Not at all. And bonus: you can increase the font size!
6-How is it reading outside in sunlight? Worked well for me. I've had no issues yet.
7-Have you experienced any problems with the kindle? Not yet. *knocks on wood*
8-Does it seem flimsy to you? It is quite thin, but not flimsy. I have an M-Edge jacket for it, too, which bulks it up and protects it.
9-Did you buy any of the accesories for it? Hehe the jacket and the light.
10-Did you buy the extented warranty? I'd have to ask Santa about that. Probably not.
11-Are you glad you bought it? It was a gift, but YES! I LOVE it.
