The Saints are a freight train running down hill right now. Having watched the Pats play both the undefeated teams at their homes, I think the Saints are clearly a better team than the Colts. The Pats had a 17 point lead on the Colts in the fourth quarter, and self-destructed. Last night, the Patriots were dismantled by the Saints in all three phases (well, except for the kicking game...time for them to replace Carney with Hartley!).

I will be rooting for the Saints in the playoffs, that is, unless the Patriots somehow manage to get their defense in order in time to make a Super Bowl run. Not looking likely though!

As for the Pats...The one knock I have on Belichick is that he really hasn't done a good job of replenishing his defense through the draft. They drafted the MLB Mayo last year, and he's a stud, but the defensive backs they have drafted over the past 3 or 4 years have left much to be desired...Too many guys like Jonathan Wilhite who are small and really not that fast.

And then of course, they let their best DB walk to Philadelphia (Asante Samuel).

Their offense will be fine - they were down to their 3rd string left tackle last night, and he actually did a pretty fair job. This has been an area of strength for Belichick - drafting OL and DL.

But yes - those Saints are for real...But anybody who has watched them this year more than casually already knew that!

Good luck the rest of the way, Wakey! That is a nice team!!

One last rant on Belichick...Sometimes, I think his ego gets in the way...Like he can just plug anybody into his defense and they will produce.

He has always garnered alot of the accolades for his team's success...But guys like Harrison, Samuel, Bruschi, Seymour, Vrabel...And even going back to Ty Law and Lawyer Milloy were all playmakers.

This version of Patriots defense has no playmakers of any accomplishment.

Not sure there is another team in American pro sports who's team is more intertwined with the city's culture. Satchmo just makes you feel good...

ouch and old news

The Saints were outstanding last night. I just wish outstanding didn't have to end around midnight.

I kinda have this love/hate thing going on with the idea of the Saints and Colts meeting in the Super Bowl - both undefeated.

I hate it because I am a Pats fan and I can't give up just yet.

I love it because it will shut Mercury Morris up!

I had one of those: Saints D, Marques Colston, Mike Bell, Laurence Maroney, Stephen Gostowski, Randy Moss things happening across 2 fantasy teams.

I was just happy for points!

Me too, Pip...I had Brees, Colston, Saints D, and Welker (who did nothing) last night...Fantasy football makes for some strange bedfellows sometimes! And when your team gets smoked in New Orleans, having Brees and Colston takes the sting off!

Me Three - Pip and Sox - Brady, Welker, Gotkowski (got little help from AP and S Rice) worst points day yet (but still carry the points lead). Hope you make the semi's...

All the best,

Absolutely...Even the Team of the Decade across all sports gets handed a butt-whoopin' now and again.
