Beach Party! Every Other Sunday

Post by stjohnjulie »

Beach party! Thought I'd let you all know that some of the locals have come together to throw a beach party every other Sunday out at Hansen Bay Campground. This is where Vie is at...just past her "Snack Shack" on the beach. The next one will be this upcoming Sunday, November 29th. There is music, food, drinks, a lots of people enjoying the water and each other.

I was lucky enough to make it out for the last one and I don't think I will miss another (I don't let my 8 year old son would let me ;-) ! I felt so much love...just like Love City should be. There were tourists, locals, transplants, babies, elderly and everything in between. Last time they had a live band, very cool. The food served is some of the local favorites, bbq chicken, whelks, conch, fish, and some people were lucky enough to snatch up the fresh lobster. The food was delicious! We were out there from about 1pm until 5pm, not sure what time things start, or how long the last, but I would say you should try and make it out if you are here on one of their "on" Sundays. It is a great time and a fantastic way to hang with some of us locals and see how we like to lime away a Sunday afternoon. Meet cool people, make new friends, fill your bellies, play in the sea, drink, dance.... Hope to meet some of you out there!

As far as I know, they will be continuing all year...for as long as people keep coming. I will try and update this thread (or start a new one) if things change. Hope some of you can make it!

My son had a BLAST out there! He met a few kids he didn't know and just had so much fun. He actually ate TWO plates of food. He's a big eater, but that was a ton of food. Slept like a baby that night too!

We'll actually schedule our trip around the Sunday party, if they're still going on on our next visit. Sounds like a blast. Could you take some pics for us?

I have a LOT of pics already...I haven't posted yet because on a whole, STJ people are private. I am going to take some more pics this Sunday that are "far back"... I will put some up soon though. My husband is a very willing participant, and think he will give me his ok to put up some pics of him. I will also ask permission to put other photos up. This scene is very very cool, and I hope people check it out. At our house we are calling it "RESPECT THE VIBE" party. It's just so nice to find all the cool STJ vibe people in one spot.

Don't think I mentioned, but last time it was Koko and the Sunshine Band out there.. Very cool! They are a really good local band. The food was amazing. The crowd was cool. Lots of LOVE!

Julie,

So, do we go through the same gate as Vie's beach, and if so, are people dropping the $2.50 per person in the box for Vie, as she's not open on Sundays? I just want to make sure that we're doing the right thing if we end up going. My DH might need a little convincing, but I'd like to go.

You go PAST Vie's just a little bit to where the "Hansen Bay Campground" is located. There will be a bunch of cars there. You can pull in and park where you can find a spot, or along the road. There is a chain and sign along the road directly across from the area that says "NO PARKING" (a new development!)...so, obviously, don't park there.

I tend to go early, because my guys like to play in the water, but lots of people come a little later and don't even go near the water. Just hang out, dance, drink, socialize. OH, if you see little piles of burning, smoking leaves, they do that to keep the bugs away. Last time we were there we had had some rain the week prior and the bugs were "up". The smoke works pretty good for keeping them away.

Hey Julie - I won't have the opportunity to go to the party until the next time I get to STJ, but I'm just curious... do people bring food like a potluck? Would someone like me take something to share?

It's not a potluck. They charge for food and drinks. They are there all morning setting up, preparing food. Some of it is prepared elsewhere, but the chicken, fish, goat, lobster, etc is cooked right there on grills. Super yummy! It is reasonable, starting at about $12 a plate (big plate with all the sides). So no need to bring anything but yourself!

I asked the hubby and he said it would be ok if I put some pictures up. I did them on my mac account so that it's easier for me to manage them if I need to. So you can check out a some photos here:

These photos were taken at the last two. First pictures were the last one, the cloudier ones are the time before that. Enjoy!
