Summer crowds
Summer crowds
MY BF has promised his 9 year old daughter a trip to STJ next summer. We want to check out a few villas while we are down there next week. Is the island more crowded in the summer? Are any of the months less crowded?
The summer season is never really crowded - the exception being the STJ carnival time over the July 4th holiday - and that is only a few days of Cruz Bay crowded feeling.
As you get into Aug many places start to close for vacation, renovation, and there are certainly no crowds - Sept. you could probably feel like the VI is undiscovered.
The summer weather does get a bit hotter and less windy - flatter seas, and although it never gets into the high 90s'F it is a different Caribbean than the winter weather - the water is so warm you could spend all day snorkeling though.

We've only been in Augist; next summer is a July trip. First trip for the soon to be 8-year old.
It's pretty quiet, not all restaurants are open, but that's never an issue for us because we tend to eat at the villa.
We usually hit the beaches in the afternoons and have shared Trunk Bay with as few as 3 other people at times.
But...it can be HOT

I think where ever you go in the summer that it is a lot busier in later summer weeks than earlier. That is, take the trip right after school is out. Maybe the first week of June. Has anyone else noticed this? It seems like it takes us all a while to get those vacations planned.
Also, make sure to get air in the bedrooms.

We've been to St. John in January, April, May, June, July, and October. The most crowded by far was January, and the least crowded was October. I agree with nothintolose that the beginning of June seems to be growing in popularity for some reason. We were on island this past June and one day I counted 75 people at Francis Bay, and another day (admitedly a weekend) over 200 people at Cinnamon! That said, it still was not nearly as crowded as January was for us.
It's like looking in your soup and finding a whole different alphabet.
