Cruz Views or Periwinkle

Post by Kevino »

Any comments on either of these 1 bdrm units? Looking to stay the month of Nov 2010 and don't need the oversized Villa. Would like to stay in the Great Cruz Bay area. Will be checking them out during Thanksgiving week this year. Thanks for nay input!

Hey Kevino.....we stayed at Cruz Views just last week (10-31 to 11-88). We were in Unit # 7. Having only stayed in villas I wasn't really sure what to expect but was pleasantly surprised at how much I enjoyed my stay there.
Love Unit 7....it has been updated & was very comfortable for my husband & myself.
The kitchen: nicely redone....beautiful cabinets, lighting, enough utensils/pots & pans/dinnerware & some to spare. It does not have a dishwasher but that was no big deal for us. It does have a flat-top cook surface but no oven. We weren't sure how this would work at first as there is a toaster oven...it worked out fine for us. We cooked breakfast (muffins/toast) in the toaster oven each morning, cereal or bacon/eggs could also be done on the cooktop with this.
The bedroom: great bed, ceiling fan with extra fan.
A/C in the hallway actually kept the unit cool with all the other ceiling fans & extra fans if needed. Also had a safe & plenty of storage for clothes, etc.
The bath: big shower & typical 1-bdrm sink, toliet, etc.
Balcony: big balcony with 4 chairs & 2 loungers & 3 small tables. There is a ceiling fan on the balcony (didn't work so tell them to please try to fix it for you)...would have been nice to have had that out there. Also the view is gorgeous: you can watch the car barges come/go & the sunsets were amazing!
I'll try to post pics later....p.s. also the Cruz Views cat ,"Sam", was a pleasant visitor each day!!

Enjoy whichever you choose....

Thanks for your input! Where exactly is it? Is the neighborhood OK? My wife is real anxious if we stray too far from Westin, Great Cruz, etc. I've spoiled her too much over many years. Thanks for your help.

It's right up the road from the new Roundabout...(others can give you exact directions). I never once felt uneasy about the location....or going to & from.
Both of our previous villa stays were in Chocolate Hole so this was a new "closer in" area for us.

Cruz Views is in a crime riddled area of St John but a resident guard cat polices the area diligently so no worries. Nah just kiddin the area is fine, we love the place for a cheap stay. We've stayed there numerous times. They is what they is, nice clean basic condos with great views, nice pool and reasonable prices. 7 and 10 are the high end units that have been updated so I would go with them if ya need a little luxury. We've stayed in 3,5,8 and 9 which are dated but worked great for us.

Just stayed in cruz views #5. Good value for the money. Not 5 star, but clean, good location and wonderful views, nice pool area. Ideal size for 2, but even though it had a loft would not have been large enough with kids. Unit had everything we needed for the week.

We stayed in Cruz Views #1 just recently, and there are pics in our trip report, maybe report 4 or 5. It was very convenient to Candi's ribs LOL. Oh, and the rest of Cruz Bay. Easy driving, and it had everything we needed.

Hey Minde ~ Went through your TR'S. Awesome job. Pics were great. I know exactly where it is now. Based on your stay and Capt Kirk, looks like I'll enjoy the month of Nov 2010 at Cruz Views. I'll have a drink at the BB next week thinking of you guys!!
I hope to run into you guys sometime soon. We're back on island Mar 21 for a week and again April 16 for 10 days. Seeya,

We stayed at Periwinkle on Rock Ridge Road in 1999 for two weeks. The loft is really unusable, so it's basically a one bedroom with a porch. I liked the mature landscaping, fruit trees and flat parking area close to town. With the western exposure and no pool the afternoons got hot.

We're also fans of Cruz Views for low budget trips. We've stayed in three different units, most recently #9. It's basic, clean and good.

Both spots are St. John safe. I will definitely stay at Cruz Views again. Periwinkle would be fine if there was a good deal, but there are a lot of other places in that price range.

Cheers, RickG
