If you live in Philly I could use some help

Post by Xislandgirl »

My nephew will be working an internship starting December 1 and needs an apartment or even a room. Something basic, safe, and cheap. It is a paid internship, but my sister in law will be helping with the bills.

He is starting to panic since he has not been able to find anything.

This is in an area they call University City, where U Penn, Drexel etc is. Place is called The International House:

My son lived here for a few months in between other apartments, while a student. I'm assuming you are talking about a student age young man. Lots of international students here obviously but many other grad students too. Descent area, walking distance to quite a few things, including 30th st station for rail service. You could also walk into center city as many student do, etc. They have different terms for staying different lengths of time.

Ask away if this helps and you have any other questions.

Craigslist is a great suggestion! If he needs recommendations on safety of neighborhood, I'd be happy to give him any advice that I can. The rental market is down so no need to panic - he should definitely be able to find something. PM me if you'd like my email address to share with him.

I just found out he will be working for Oracle in Balla Cynwyd. I have no idea where that is.
Any idea where to look in that area?

Hi there. It's Bala Cynwyd.

Will he be taking public transportation? Does have access to a car?

He should look in Bala Cynwyd, Wynnewood, Narberth, Maybe even Havertown. All are good safe areas and all have access to public transportation.

I work for a real estate agency in the area (I'm not an agent) and if you'd like me to send you some directly off of the MLS, let me know. I can also look around and see if there are any private rentals that are not listed.

Also, on Wednesday, you should look up the Main Line Times and the News of Delaware County. There are private rentals in there.

Hope this helps.

Bala Cynwyd is 10 minutes from me - across the River. I agree with Connie and I'd add to his search Manayunk and Roxborough as good options. Using craigslist with these neighborhoods should definitely help him find something.

Again, if he needs any advice, please ask.

And I agree with Nancy :D

Manayunk and Roxborough have some rentals and there's alot of young kids around there. Neat night life.
