"Walk Up" Car Rental OK?

Post by JohnM »

Will be on STJ in mid-Nov.

Anyone here think that I'll run into problems walking into Conrad Sutton's, requesting a 3-day rental? Only for 4 adults.

Conrad's only takes advance reservations for 5-day minimum.

John, I can't answer you about Conrad's, but I can tell you that I got a 1-day rental from Delbert Hill's with no problem. I did reserve in advance though.

Thanksgiving week is very likely a no and the week before could be tough. Conrad Sutton tends to book up pretty tight during that time. We've had good luck with Cool Breeze for walk up. Best to arm yourself with some phone numbers and make the calls the day before you want your vehicle.

Thanks for the replies & info.

RickG: I should have been more specific. We're there from Nov. 11-13. From past experience, thats usually a quiet time for STJ, so you'd think there wouldn't be a problem w/ availability. But, for that same reason, the agencies could take some of their fleet down for maintenance, due to the lack of demand.

Just don't want to end up without a ride.

We did a walk-up around that same time several years ago when the off season was truly "off". It took 3-4 calls before we finally scored a car (from Courtesy, I believe).

We've since done less than a week rentals, but always reserve in advance.

I emailed St. John Car Rental last week about a one day rental on October 22 and was told that they don't reserve for anything less than one week. I have emailed Cool Breeze and haven't gotten a response from them yet. I will also give Delbert Hill a try (thanks for that tip).

This past June I got an SUV for 6 people
for just 1 day. Rented it through Bougainvillea.
But also had it reserved in advance by about 4
weeks.
