North Shore Rd work?

Post by SunnySal »

I heard that work on North Shore will start in a few days. Anyone know anything about this?
I believe there is magic here...

They actually started work on North Shore yesterday, and dug up a section of the left lane going up Lind Point hill. Nothing happened today at all, so maybe they forgot some important component....

I can't help but wonder if that's asphalt?

I hope it's at least partially open in a few weeks. I'm bringing a newbie and I have such visions of driving North Shore on the first day and watching the reaction. If we have to drive Centerline I guess I'll just pick up a hitch hiker and expose them to that kind of island experience instead.

Oh, It'll be open, although you can expect delays. THe NPS has promised no more than 5 minute maximum waiting. This is the first major attention and total repaving the road has gotten since 1988. That year they did close it, as they did massive reengineering, eliminated switchbacks, and built overlooks and parking lots. And then there was the time in the early 70's that Centerline fell down, and the only way to Coral Bay was straight down the dirt King Hill road right behind where the Columbo stand is now.
