New feelings about St. John

Post by Robbin »

I just want to let everyone know that I have changed my mind about a return trip. I don't think our minds were in the right place to truly enjoy the island as we should have. Best friend died a week before our trip he was going to re-marry us on april fools day. Talked to hubby were gonna make plans for another trip. I think we are in a better state of mind to enjoy it now. Won't stay at Holiday Inn in St Thomas again.

I looked back at you post from your last trip and I do hope that you try and look at the islands in a different light on this trip.

Just a quick story to put things into perspective.
When I was living on STJ, I was a REALTOR. I was showing a property that had a small caretaker apt and I lived in it. While I was showing my buyers the property, they commented that they felt bad that someone had to live in such a place and that if they bought the property, they would never rent it out because no one should live like that.
I loved my apt. It was clean and safe, close to town and had a view. I had a great deal on island. They thought it was a dump.

We often fear or judge things we don't understand.

I hope that this trip is all that you are looking for

Very well put, XIslandGirl! Robbin, I'm sure you'll find plenty to love on your next trip! If you don't, though, there really are lots of other places to look for your own personal paradise.
I hope you're all better, too :)

Hi Robbin! We have teenagers and want to try to show them different things--but we keep going back to St. John because we love it!

We went to Puerto Rico about 3 years ago--and I haven't really been honest about what we really thought of it. We did some really great day trips and found some really beautiful spots--there was a lot to like. Overall though, we didn't like it and don't intend on going back. Maybe we just weren't in the right state of mind because my husband's sister told us the night before going that it was very unsafe--she went on and on. Certainly it has to have some bearing on us. I imagine that how you felt on your last trip might have had some bearing too. I hope you have a great trip!!

Keep us posted!

Hope you have a great trip, Robbin. St. John is our favotite place in the world and it might be perfect for you on a return trip.

I guess I'll echo a little bit of Gina's comment though---the VIs don't have to be for everyone. The Turks and Caicos Islands, for example, are beautiful, with some Caribbean flavor, but a bit newer and more Americanized---I didn't like it quite as well for this reason (too new and perfect), but to many of our friends this might be more appealing. Just a thought.
