Car Rental at STT
Car Rental at STT
We're arriving on Thanksgiving this year and are looking into renting 2 4WD vehicles at the airport (there are 8 of us so that seemed to be the most economical way to move us to St. John). After some research, it appears that Thrifty and Dollar are our two choices at the airport. Someone has indicated to us that the car rental agencies are not reliable as pertains to hours of operation and that even if we have a confirmed reservation there might not be anyone at the desk when we get there. Has anyone had any experience with renting at STT on Thanksgiving? We're scheduled to arrive at 2 PM on a direct flight from Boston so my confidence level is fairly high that we'll be reasonably on time. Thanks for any advice.

We always rent from Amalie car Company. They are located off the airport premises....and therefore have no airport taxes. They will bring the car to you at the airport and pick it up at the airport when your stay is over. It is a LOCAL, family owned business and they do allow you to take their vehicle over to St. John. All of their vehicles are 1-2 years old as well. We already have our Jeep reserved with them for our next trip this December!
We just rented a 4WD from Discount and the service was just excellent. They are not at the airport, but you call them once you have your luggage and they pick you up within minutes, they drive you to their place, about 5 minute drive and get the papers filled with a nice "new"(4000 miles) 4WD. Easy to deal with when you bring the vehicule back. I strongly recommend.
Dependable isn't open Thanksgiving Day and Discount doesn't offer any insurance and we need liability. Looks like our options are Thrifty, Dollar, Budget or Amalie on St. Thomas. Has anyone had any problems with arriving during posted business hours to find the rental car desk closed as has been alluded to us? We're trying to weigh against having the villa rental agency arrange the cars to be picked up in St. John (it would cost around $250 in taxi and ferry fees just to get us there so getting the car at STT seemed to make sense). Thanks,
Pam
