Spirit Airlines baggage update

Post by mbw1024 »

I mentioned this in the post below re: the air fare sale. So it doesn't get buried I started a new thread.

As of 2/10/07 only one piece of luggage is allowed per person, anything over that is $10 per bag, assuming it clears the weight allowance. Over weight bags still subject to additional charges.

Ya, cool with me; we check one bag amongst the crew for the sunscreen. The only reason to bring two bags is if one is a wedding dress. Better yet, get married at Jorge's MILF bar - all you need is a nice pair of heels!

Cheers, RickG

I guess that will mean $10.00 for the cooler. Now is this for each leg of the flight IE: we have a plane change so will it be $20.00???
Maybe I will just have Hubby leave all his lotions & potions at home LOL.

Is the one bag limit for checked luggage only? Do they still allow a carryon + personal?

Thanks Mary Beth for the heads-up. I had no idea.

I wonder if they are planning on sending e-mails to passengers booked after that date.

I can just imagine all the irate people checking-in! :x

Just another example of why this forum is such a great resource!

Jorge, good to see you coming out of the closet - so to speak! :)

Steve, carry on still the same. They used to allow 2 checked bags but as of 2/10 only one, for free that is.

PatR, we are booked on a Spirit flight to FLL on 2/15 and I hadn't heard a word from Spirit. I only knew because I read it some where else - just paying it forward :)

We just got an email from Spirit re: our upcoming flight. Here's what is has to say:

Checked Baggage
Spirit Airlines requires that name identification be on the outside of any bags or luggage. We recommend placing identification on the inside of your luggage as well. Name labels are available at any Spirit ticket counter.

Please keep valuables, computers, medications, and important papers in a carry-on on your person. For helpful packing tips, click here.

For flights departing February 10, 2007 and beyond, for each ticketed passenger, Spirit Airlines will transport one (1) bag as checked baggage free of charge, a second bag for $10 and $100 per bag thereafter.
Maximum weight, without charge, for each piece of checked baggage is 50 pounds (23 kg) per bag. Maximum size, without charge, for each piece of checked baggage must not exceed 62" (158 cm) in overall dimensions (L+W+H). An extra charge applies for additional, overweight and/or oversized pieces.

In no event will Spirit Airlines accept baggage that weighs more than 99 pounds (45 kg) and/or baggage that measure in single dimension more than 80" (203 cm) or combined dimension exceeding 160" (406 cm)*.

Special items such as pets, surfboards, bicycles and other sporting equipment are not included in the passenger's free baggage allowance and are subject to an extra charge.

Carry-On Baggage
Passengers may also carry-on, without charge, one additional piece totaling no more than 22+13+10 (56cm + 33cm + 25cm), maximum weight 40 lbs (18 kg), which is capable of being stowed under a passenger seat or in an approved overhead cabin compartment.
