Sailboat on Rocks/Beach in Chocolate Hole

Post by benchill »

Winds have died down and it seems the only damage is this little red sailboat. Most all of the other boats were moved over the weekend to safer harbors.

As you can see in the Serendipity cam from a few days ago, she is still on her mooring, near the top center of the photo.

And now.... she is on a rocky beach:

Another look at her:

The fact she didn't go onto the surf pounded rocks near the mouth of Chocolate Hole, leaves a good chance they can get her off and floating again without too much damage.

They towed the boat off the rocks about an hour ago and it is floating in Great Cruz Bay now. A full damage assessment will be done tomorrow.

It makes me sad when I see that happen to such beautiful boats! What ever happened to that other boat that got lodged up against the rocks not too long ago?

I talked to Allen from Sea Tow yesterday afternoon and they did get it off without major damage. No holes in the boat. I am sure it is still a little worse for wear. Margo as for the other boat a few months ago, it broke apart when they finally got it out of there. It was cut up and parted out.

I just talked to the owner of the little red boat and he said that she is doing fine and moored in Great Cruz Bay. She got a little scratched paint. He had checked the moorings yesterday morning and everything was fine. Shortly after that he got a call that she was washed ashore so she wasn't banged around for too long. Lets hope all the boats weather the storms that are due to come.
