Steely Dan in Boston

Post by KatieH »

We were at the show on Wednesday - they played Aja and Royal Scam in their entirety - plus a few others. It was so good that we're going again tomorrow night for their "Internet Request" show. :D

Were they scheduled to do both albums? Because we're going to the NYC show next week which is for Royal Scam, but it would be very nice to hear Aja as well. Glad you had a good time.

Sorry for the double post!

Also, I'd love to hear what they cover during the Internet request show.

Noreen:
It seems that they were being interviewed by a Boston reporter a few weeks ago and were asked why they were only doing Aja and Gaucho in Boston, but - Royal Scam was an additional show/night in NY, etc.

After they finished Aja they walked off stage - came back on and related the story. Then they said they were going to do Royal Scam, too. They did that then, Boston Rag, Dirty Water, Hey Nineteen, Black Friday and My Old School. They played a lot of music that night!

My sense is that they wouldn't have played Royal Scam on Wednesday if it was scheuled for one of their Boston nights.

Have a great time! I was planning on the Beacon show of Aja in NY but the logistics weren't working.

Wednesday's show was great, but I think I liked tonight's even more. They played alot from Aja, but also two of my favorites that I didn't hear on Wed; Dr Wu and Bodhisatva.

Here's the set list
Royal Scam
Bodhisaatva
Hey 19
Black Friday
Babylon Sister
Aja
Peg
Dirty Work
FM
Rikki Don't Lose That Number
Dr Wu
Any Major Dude
Do it Again
Black Cow
Josie
Don't Take Me Alive
Kid Charlamagne
and three encores:
Reelin in the Years
My Old School
Dirty Water.

The Wang Center was a great venue. They're playing the MGM Grand on August 7th. Am I too old to become a groupie

Thanks for the info, Katie. Wow, I'd go to the additional show just to hear Dr. Wu, which is one of my favorites, and one I've never heard them do. But I'll finally get to hear Haitian Divorce, since it is on Royal Scam!

The Beacon is a nice theatre. I've seen Lou Reed and the Dalai Lama there, although obviously not on a double bill.

Chet - :D Wednesday's show included an invitation for audience participation on that particular part of the song.

My husband has been teasing me about the fact that all of the concert goers were OLD. I kept pointing out younger attendees. He said their parents were obviously in a nursing home, and the kids didn't want to waste the tickets

katie, friday night show was fabulous, There were a couple of weak tunes on Gaucho, but Time Out Of Mind made up for it. they did a song from their new album THE LAST MALL. Something about 'a bounty on your face.' i'm crazy for the new album, you must get it. The only song I missed was "Rikki'. That Donald Fagen is brilliant!
