The lease will run out. The property will be sold. We have a chance to affect what will become of the land. I'd resigned myself to it being sold and developed. Gratefully, not everybody else resigned. If successful, it may not save the Maho Camps, but it would preserve the land and keep the concrete monstrosities from taking over those hills, too. This is our opportunity (for me it actually feels more like an obligation) to try to affect what it will be like for future generations.

I've made a donation. You should, too. I'm probably going to donate more because as I think of it, that place and its memories are worth a lot more to me than what I donated.

We first went to STJ in the 80s. We stayed at Maho. It's a most special place for us. We were planning to get back one last time before they rolled up the tents-----to show our gratitude and to refresh memories. And suddenly there's a little glimmer----it may not be over yet. But this is really a much bigger issue than the status of the campground.

If you've donated, that's wonderful. If you're intending to, what are you waiting for? If you're unsure, why wouldn't you? I spent a lot of money on junk this weekend, it would have felt better to send it to the Trust.

This issue doesn't seem to be generating much enthusiasm on the forum. I would have thought it would. I'll probably keep raising it.

You do realize that in the worst case they're still open for another 2 years. It's not like they're closing the place down next week.
And do we really need three threads about this on page one? it's getting a little tiresome everytime I come to this site and see threads begging for donations to save a private business. I mean it's not like Selengut is hurting for cash now is he. Let him come up with the 20% down payment and buy the place himself. Amazing how he donates 2 acres to TPL and the next thing they have a fund raising campaign to save the campground.
Nuff said on this subject.
