Is it too early to book with USAIR?
We don't normally fly them to STJ and I am worried since I have seen a few posts that talk about the nightmare with them.
Perfect flight times on the days that we want in April for $362.00 per person.
I have never paid this little, but I am worried that our cheap flights will turn into a nightmare.
Any thoughts?

I guess I'd say that I have not had any more issues with them than any other airline in the last few years. (They all kind of suck).
I must say though that my last trip (two weeks ago) to Sarasota to visit my parents, I was pleasantly surprised with how they handled a potentially bad situation. I was to leave at 5:45 AM and they called me at 10:30 PM to let me know that (due to weather issues and other flight problems) the flight crew needed their requisite sleep and my first flight would be delayed by 2 hours which would make me miss my connection. They had already booked me on Delta, for similar times, and from there everything went on without a hitch. I was impressed.
A couple of weeks before that, we had major issues flying to Cozumel on American. However, we were a party of six which makes a big difference. A single flyer or a couple, it would not have been a huge deal. Finding seats for six at the last minute is not an easy task. This all ended up working out fine too, in the end.
So we get the whole motley crew together again in April/May? SWEET!

Being from Philly we are stuck taking USAIR a lot. My only advise to you would be DO NOT book if you are connecting through Charlotte! Having read other horror stories on this board and considering I spent the first night of one of my vacations in Charlotte, I would never go through Charlotte again.
You probably saw my post about USAir, like Caribechris, we got stuck overnight after missing our connection in Charlotte. The problem is that once USAir's Caribbean flights go (around noon - 1pm), you're stuck until the next day, and since nobody else but USAir uses Charlotte as a hub, you don't have a lot of other options on other airlines to get to STT, or even San Juan or Miami that night.
I've had fine experiences on USAir, United, American etc. on previous trips, but after this last one, I will try to either book direct or connect through a larger hub (Miami).
Another tip is to try to travel Sat-Sat. There aren't as many flights to STT on off days (at least in the off season)

The day we missed our connection, it was also an early morning flight. The weather was beautiful all over the country so we do not know what happened they never let us know and were not too kind to us either. I am sure it does not happen often but to miss just one day of vacation and have to spend it in Charlotte made me wise to never take the chance again.
Like Petepie said there were no other flights and we arrived around noon in Charlotte. We said we would go to Miami or San Juan but it was a no go. We spent the night in Charlotte, missed one day of STJ, did not care about the $$ the time missed was more precious to me!

I still have to confirm with the other couple, but it is under $400 and that is a bargain
I think its a deal as well...I priced them (on their site) for last few days of March til the first week of April and came up with 700+ pp, same thing for June and thats going out of Clt. The thing I like about going out of Clt its non stop for us, going out of MB on Spirit we have a layover in Ft Lauderdale. but Spirit has the same dates for 1200 for 4 that I was checking on. So for that kinda savings...we'd by pass US air and do a layover..

I say grab it. We've never had issues that others have with UsAir. I guess it's a chance you take. But that airfare is great...Xislandgirl wrote:I am hoping since we would arrive in CLT at 8:30, that we would be in good shape.

We always fly US Air because it seems to have the best times/prices from Detroit. I understand the concern about missing a connection in Charlotte though. We actually like the Charlotte Airport and always try to connect there instead of Philly from Detroit. We very much dislike the Philly Airport (sorry) and we have had horrible luck with Philly losing our bags. There are lots of decent food choices at Charlotte and a decent bar in every concourse. Also, all concourses are close to each other. I would book it. We have never had our flight times changed more than a few minutes. I probably just jinxed myself
.

Going "home" again October 26th!
X - if it puts your mind at ease a little, I pretty much fly USAir exclusively, and living in East TN, our connections are through Charlotte almost every time. We fly USAir because we have always had good experiences with them. We stick with what works. After probably 5-6 flights per year, 2 of them to STT each year, and pretty much all of them through Charlotte, I don't have any negatives to report.
I was recently in the same situation with booking a future trip: prices excellent (for what we see here), early flight through Charlotte direct to STT. I grabbed them. For whatever reason, I've had better success flying USAir to STT than anyone else so far as far as being on time. In some cases, price counts for a LOT.
