Day 11: The End
Day 11: The End
Day 11: The Dreaded End, Bye Casa Luna, Bye STJ...
I can't believe the end has come. No matter how long I stay the end always seems to appear suddenly! Out of the blue. HELLO THIS IS YOUR LAST DAY. Hate it ... everytime. Even when I am looking forward to going home and seeing my doggie, I still hate it. HATE. Or as the kids say, H8.
The car was already loaded up, so we take in the last of our views, shower (again to be nice to our fellow passengers) and eat our last breakfast.
The in transit time is always the most stressful for me and I mitigate my stress by carefully planning and plotting. On past trips our flight out has been between 2-4 pm. In theory, if children aren't involved, this works. With kids, it can be less than ideal. You return your car at 10am and then what...hang out in Cruz Bay, head to STT and shop and get all nasty and hot, go straight to the airport and wait forever and ever. None are appealing options to me. And that 2-4 pm flight always gets us home at midnight. Every single time. So when I saw a 12:30 flight that would get us back to DC by 7something I took it. This meant we could eat breakfast, leave the house, return the car, hop on the 9am ferry and go straight to the airport. Another bonus, and maybe this was just luck, the airport was blissfully empty when we arrived around 10ish.
Anyway...so where was I. Loaded up and heading to Cruz Bay. I dropped my people and bags at the dock and headed around to drop off the car at Suttons. No one was there yet, so I parked and walked down to Connections to print out our boarding passes (I had checked us in via iphone the day prior to make sure we had our seats). Easy and about $4 later, I was on my way back to Suttons. Still no one was there. Not wanting to miss the 9am ferry, I put the key under the mat and trusted they would take care of closing out the rental, and headed to the dock.
Ruth was ready and waiting to take our departure photos! I know people say it ALL THE TIME, but she really is THE BEST. So fun, so cool, so well ... So STJ! She took a few with our camera and a couple with the webcam!
First, Sad Faces...
And then we remember its just a matter of time until we return!

I head down to the sand to write my message. BYE <3 F-F for those of you who didn't catch it!

This was my first sandscrit and yes, people look at you like you are high when you are down there writing!

OUTTA HERE

I think we successfully wore out the girl. Waiting for the ferry.

The ferry was right on time and we grabbed a cab and headed to the airport from Red Hook. Upon arrival we elected to get a porter though as empty as it was it was just for convenience not out of necessity! Customs and bag check was a breeze and we headed to the terminal to grab a snack and wait.
Our flight left right on time. My bag was ready. Standard travel needs...peanut m&ms, iPhone, boarding passes. Note: $0 remained!

Daddy, milkface & Mama ready for take-off

Before we knew it we were in NY. Luckily this flight was well timed with Belly's nap and he slept for most of the flight. We deplaned, grabbed some food and headed to our next flight.
The flight from NY to DC only takes about 50 minutes. Sweet! The hard part is over. Now just to get this last leg done. So we all board the tiny puddle jumper. 2 seats on one side, 1 on the other. we take up two rows. And we wait...and wait and wait. After about 1/2 an hour the pilot comes on the speaker and I expect him to say, we will take off momentarily. Um, no, "Hello this is your captain, we are 17th in line for takeoff!"
17th!!! Now at this point we've already been waiting for about 1/2 an hour. It was another 1/2 an hour before we took off. Belly Flop took this as his cue to practice his vocal skills and decided to sing and basically yell "Laaaaaaaa" while we waited. I felt bad, but what can you do. When you are prepared for a 50 minute flight and it takes longer than the flight time itself to TAKE OFF...Oh well.
17th

It was dead silent in the plane too, other than my little guy. "Laaaa Laaaaa Laaaaaa." Hey at least he wasn't crying. What kills me is the people who are trying to sleep at 6:00 pm. I swear the guy in front of me was acting like it was an overnight red eye to London!
Till next time...that's all folks!
Thanks for coming along with me!

Thanks I take that as a great compliment from you. It seems to me we always take the best shots of those and that which we love best. They make great little subjects. I just can't believe how much they grow between trips!jmq wrote:Good stuff -thanks for the ride. You got some great shots of the kids.
Thanks all! I really have fun reliving my time with the trip report. I wouldn't be able to remember anything without them!
