Recent post re: Villa questions to ask

Post by toes in the sand »

OK, I know it's here somewhere but a search and browsing the first 30 pages produced no results.

Recently someone posted a list of questions they suggested to ask about a potential villa. I remember reading and saying to myself that I should save this somewhere because it was a good list. For the life of me I cannot remember who posted it nor can I find it.

Can anyone help me out here?

I always ask about the road getting to the villa. Paved or not?
Are there pool/beach floats?
Houses close by?
Construction in the area?
If not listed, is there A/C in the bedrooms?

I thought I kept that list but can't find it. Here are some that I remember:

Screens on the windows? How new?
How old are the pictures on the web site?
Ask for a floor plan and sizes of beds in each room
If there is no dryer, is there a clothes line?
How many cars can park there (if going with a group)
Ceiling fans? Which rooms?
Breezes?
If something breaks or doesn't work, who do I call and where do they live? (How soon will they get there?)
Are any provisions left in the house, e.g. Ziploc bags, olive oil, foil, etc.
Are there other amenities that aren't listed on the website? (blender, ice maker, etc.) Are all the amenities listed on the website still available and in good working condition?
When does the pool get sun, and is it warm in the afternoon?

in no particular order:

washer/dryer
cleaning supplies (laundry detergent, windex, vacuum)
paper goods (paper towels, plates, etc.)
beach chairs
working internet
working tv reception (cable/sat.) (last place we stayed at had no tv reception)
local contact
we cook alot, so I always ask about pots/pans, dishware, glassware, etc.
size of pool
king beds or twins pushed together?
view, view, view, view!!!
privacy from other villas

You guys are great, thank you. Ruth, thanks. I looked through to January posts trying to find that! (Well, after a while I was just browsing and reading the interesting stuff)

If you have kids, ask detailed questions about the floorplan -- any interior access between bedooms, how close to the pool etc. Also, do all the doors and windows close and lock securely, are there screens, and are they in good shape?

Maid service on StJ??????????? That would require a schedule and schedules are not permitted when I step off the ferry
