Day 4: Francis, Next Day Service @ Skinny's & Dinner in.

Post by flip-flop »

Sorry for the trip reporting slacking...too busy celebrating this holiday weekend, but I'll catch up. Promise!

Day 4: Francis, Skinny Legs & Dinner in

Another morning spent sleeping in a bit. Eventually all got up and motored around figuring out breakfast. Bagels and Cereal for us. A little coffee in the belly and Flip-Flop was fueled to go.

We decided to head to Francis. Another easy, beautiful beach for the kids. When we approached around 9 something we were the 2nd car in the lot. Sweet.

Francis can get a little busier, especially on weekends. It seems like locals like to hang out there. But wait, oh that's right, it is MONDAY. Nice quiet morning for us.

You can always find a chicken at Francis. My kids LOVE the chickens. Mini Flip-Flop tries to chase them and of course, Belly Flop just follows her lead throwing in a "er er er er errrrr" (chicken sound) every now and then. Ruth, they make EXCELLENT chicken deterrents if you are looking to hire. Mama has to finance her STJ habit somehow!

We move on to doing what it is we do best. ABSOLUTELY AS LITTLE AS POSSIBLE!

It was a lovely day at Francis.

My little sand monster set to doing what he does best. Covering himself and those within a 5 feet radius with sand.

Why did we come home again?

After a few hours of playing in the sand, floating in the water and generally mellowing out we decided to head to Skinny Legs for lunch. Now I LOVE a skinny burger after the beach, all hot and sweaty and hungry, really nothing tastes better. So off we go.

When we arrive its a little busy but we get a table right away and people seem to be wrapping up, so we wait.

We decide what we want and we wait.

And we wait.

Image

And we wait.

By this time there were other tables that had come in after us, ordered and GOTTEN THEIR FOOD and we still hadn't ordered. I'd managed to ask to order 3 times, but not successfully ordered.

But I wanted my DAMN BURGER. (Though I ended up getting chicken this day).

And we wait.

Image

And we kill time playing with sugar and making silly faces.

Pretty sure we still hadn't ordered yet...

I am not trying to dis Skinny's here (it even smelled good this day and was fly free), I love Skinny's. Our waitress wasn't even surly or intentionally (I don't think) being rude, she just was well ... I don't know what she was. Inefficient would be kind. Clueless? Distracted? High? Not sure. I won't give any identifying characteristics other than to say she was not Moe and she was NOT the pregnant one ;-)

Regardless, we waited. Something occurs in my being when I am in St. John and things that would compeltely set me off at home don't really even ruffle my feathers. I was a little annoyed because the Belly Flop was hitting a wall and nap time was calling his name. Nap time + HUNGER = potential disaster! But we continued to make silly faces and go for walks and play with our water and eventually we placed our order.

Same day service ... for real!

I was so desperate to entertain the boy that I let him play with the camera.

I like to call this "Dirty Face"

Eventually our food came. A burger of the day (mushroom & swiss) for the hubby and a grilled chicken sandwich for me, a hot dog for the kiddos. I have had the mahi before but typically get the burger. I never had ordered the grilled chix before. It was awesome. Maybe because I was STARVING or maybe because it was just that good but my memory says the wait was almost worth it.

We were all so hungry there is no food porn from today. Sorry.

After lunch we headed back to the house to continue our daily ritual - Beach, Check. Lunch, Check. Time for? Nap & POOL.

Life doesn't get much better.

During our afternoon pool session we voted and decided to eat in that evening. We'd cut up some chicken breasts and decided to grill them and make a giant grilled chicken ceasar salad with a yummy lime ceasar dressing Gromit had picked up at Pine Peace. YUM.

Post dinner the Flip-Flops had to make a run to Coccoloba to hit Lilly's for milk.

Image

Belly Flop insisted on walking around and checking out the boats. In his PJs. That's how we roll!

And check out the sticker car. He still calls it the "Sticker Car" everytime he sees the picture of this.

We headed back to the house and were ready to rest up for our next day.

Tomorrow: Impromtu Gathering of Forum Peeps at Honeymoon, POOL & Carnivore Night at Island Blues...

I always enjoy your TR and pics.....It's fun when you can relate. We ate at Skinny's and had the pregnant waitress....she was pretty on top of it, but some others were having a little more of a wait. And we remember the "sticker car" too. ahhh the memories....feels like so long ago, yet just last week.

I thought I'd missed a day! Phew! :)

You guys are TROOPERS! I gotta say, though, my patience increases by leaps and bounds when I'm there, too.

FF, I am loving your TR- just trying to catch up. As it's been said - your kids are so adorable and that man of yours looks to be a great dad, you have a beautiful family and one day your kids will realize how lucky they are. You are creating great memories for them!!

I just wanted to share some Skinny thoughts. I love, love their burgers, however I am not real crazy about their "same day service". Did you know you can order carry-out? One lazy villa day last May, we were just a minute or two from them and I had a brainstorm while floating in the pool - let's get burgers to eat poolside! I called and gave my order and asked, "how long?" "oh, I don't know, however long it takes to cook- maybe 10 minutes" I think -yeah right! Tell the delivery boy- Aka hubby, no way , probably at least a half hour. He scoffs and takes off right away. Unbelievably he is back in the driveway with food in less than 10 minutes!! We loved those burgers on the patio !! :D

Patr - that is great info! Typically I don't mind the same day service, but with wee ones it can be an issue. Honestly, it was the first time I can recall (or that I noticed) slow service. In fact, when we went back later in the week we were served really quickly!

You just never know, but a poolside skinny burger. Mmmmmmmm....
