St Thomas Favorites?

Post by sherban »

Hello USVI Enthusiasts- My wife and I are considering St Thomas as our next vacation destination so I thought I would see what ideas people have for favorite villas, bars/restaurants & beaches.

So far I have been focusing around Mahagony run and Peterborg for villas...

Thanks in advance for sharing any STT ideas/experiences!

Over the years I have been in quite a few of the villa rentals on STT and am sure you can find something that will make for a great stay. A very different island experience than STJ - Traffic congestion bottlenecks being a noticeable one. So your villa location and choice of daily activities should be structured and planned to avoid them as much as possible - learning the cruise ship schedule helps and not traveling at rush hour into Charlotte Amalie.
For villas the mcLaughlin Anderson group is a great on island company.
For just the 2 of you surely look into 'Seventh Heaven' and 'Stone Cottage/Rockworks' -- both are on site owner managed and beautiful homes.
There are very few villas west of town - so convenience to Red Hook or the East End beaches is fairly easy from most other areas.
Here many of the beaches do have resorts on them - which is quite a change from STJ.Secret Harbor,Sapphire,Emerald,Morningstar,Ritz, these resorts have pretty nice beachfronts and are all open to the public.
Magens Bay - Lindquist Beach - Brewers Bay -Vessup- - Hull Bay - and a few other beaches are undeveloped in comparison.
If you get a 4WD and are the exploring or hiking type there are a few totally secluded beaches too.
Great restaurants spread over the island -- Frenchtown and Red Hook have a concentration within walking distance of each other--------- and there are some great out of the way spots that will surprise you.
Taking a morning or 2 to explore downtown is an interesting combo of history, shopping and architecture and should not be missed.
Please enjoy the trip.

John and I have considered renting Rockworks. It is a beautiful house.

There is good snorkeling at Secret Harbour, and their restuarant, Blue Moon Cafe, is fun and casual, right on the water. I also like the food at Cuzzins.
It's like looking in your soup and finding a whole different alphabet.

I've been drooling over Rockworks/Stone Cottage for a couple of years. Beautiful!

Thanks for the replies...we were thinking either SXM or STT this time around. Leaning towards STT right now although I think my wife would really enjoy the nightlife of SXM. These are the kind of hard decisions one has to make...rough life....

STT Villas we are looking at include
St Somewhere, Stargate, Moonlight, Rockworks, Seabright, Stone Cottage...working on my "STT Google Earth Villa Map"...

Would appreciate any other suggestions or reviews of any of these...

Good day! We enjoy and usually stay on STT and prefer
the North Or East sides of the island. We have stayed in the Mahogany Run community and LOVE the views from there! As well as the added security. Magens & Hull's Bay are only minutes away...the ride often taken to RedHook/East end is very bearable as well.
We found a GREAT deal and very beautiful villa that I want to share with ya!! I don't know if you're just looking for your wife & yourself though. We just booked MOONLIGHT VILLA for 50% off the regular rates and the owner, Andy, seems to be a super nice guy. The 50% is for now thru Dec 2009 and he offered that special to us for April 2010, which is so awesome for us because the regular rates would not be in our budget :o
Anyway, I would recommend the North or East side of the island. Saphire, Magens(all the way over to the side), Secret Harbor, Hull Bay are pretty good for snorkeling. Lots of great restaurants all over as well.

The website for Moonlight is http://www.cyberrentals.com/rental/p161347
It is listed on many websites, Mclaughlin as well. Not all show the special rates though.

Have "fun" choosing, I say that knowing that it can be a PIA searching
We also rented a townhouse @ Mahogany through the vrbo.com site and it was nice too, depending on what type of place you want.

Take care and goodluck!!

The restaurant at the Mafolie hotel has been a favorite for a very long time.

I also think that Magen's bay is one of the most beautiful beaches, but it can definitely get very crowded (Trunk Bay crowded times 10).

Secret Harbor has good snorkeling and the bartender made a great Lime 'n Coconut.

Your welcome! It seems that I cannot get enough of the USVI lately...after April it may be time to venture off to other islands

We canceled our 9 day So Carib cruise for Dec and will visit the Cape in Oct and the USVI in April instead. My husband was a little disappointed in my canceling the cruise but living in FLA we're never far from a departure port!

We want to check out STX as well, but for now we prefer all the "day trip islands" that are "in view"...that is one of the reasons we keep coming back!

Let us know what you guys decide. I wish I didn't have to wait til April to give a review of Moonlight.
I made sure we made reservations for a week that there is a full moon to get the "full effect" of this place. Can hardly wait for the sunsets...moon reflects...reggae beats and rum drinks on that deck!!

Oh and I cannot forget GREAT company. Our son and dtr-in-law will be with us for this visit!

Rockworks and Stone Cottages are great villas and the Dorothea, Hull Bay areas are really great areas. We like nearby Caret Bay, too. Regarding Peterborg, we like the Peterborg east area - Hans Lollick view, rather than the Magen's side. Villas along the south side of the peninsula almost to the middle seem to have a very "closed in" view to me - jmo. One thing, though, if there has been a lot of rain there ends up being a ton of standing water off the Magen's road and the 'squitos get fierce. Up higher off the Peterborg Road (Dove Way, Redrock) or in the Mahogany Run area the breeze is much better and you don't have that. Allure is a great villa in Peterborg East off Oceanside Road and Miramar is a good one slightly further east - almost to Mahogany Run.

Rockworks and Stone Cottage are both beautiful.

We happen to be friends with the owner, Sherri and she's a perfect Villa host.

We stopped up to see both Villas and visit with Sherri and her husband and both places are really really nice. Everything in and out of the Villas hold personal touches.

I have no info on a villa in STT, but we never leave without a visit to the Greenhouse Restaurant.

We have stayed at Stone Cottage and Walked through Rockworks
If anyone has any questions please PM me
They are both amazing with great views and on the best part of STT in my opinion.
Good Luck
