Ferry reliability?

Post by cathys »

We will be sailing Christmas week through the BVIs, and need to catch the 3:30 ferry from St. John to Tortola on Saturday, December 26. I thought I had read that the ferry companies to Tortola are not always reliable. Any thoughts?

Thanks!!!

Ferry from Tortola

Post by StJohnbum »

Sorry can't help you with Ferry reliability but if your air arrangements are not set we love flying in and out of Tortola. Much more relaxed than STT. American Airlines can be a little spotty in regards to canceling flights that don't have a lot of passengers but we usually do one of the smaller airlines to PR and then fly up to the states from there. The Tortola airport is within easy walking distance to a couple of nice shops and bars on the water. Makes waiting for a flight much more pleasant.

Hope you have a great sail.

Good idea, but we've already booked our flight into St. Thomas. We purposely did it that way so we could spend a few days on St. John before heading over to the BVIs.

I'm just worried that if the 3:30 ferry to Tortola is not reliable, we will be really out of luck as the next ferry is not until the next day and we'll be homeless for the night.

Hoping that someone out there knows anything about this ferry. Thanks!!
