Ferry to Jost or Charter to Jost?

Post by jhillss »

I am trying to decide between taking the ferry to Jost or heading to Jost on a charter boat. With the information I have gathered to this point I know that the return ferry from Jost leaves at 3:00. If we do the charter boat option how much additional time will this give us on Jost? Is the travel time between Jost and St. John close to the same length on a charter boat as the ferry?

It just really depends on how much time you want to spend on Jost and how much $$ you want to spend in general. We just took the ferry for $60pp including customs fees. A great deal really. We had 5 full hours on Jost.

You can also do a tour like New Horizons etc and have short stops at a few places.

If you charter your own boat which is pricey without a small group, you can go where you want, when you want but would still have to leave "around" 4pm to clear customs. Sorry, I don't remember the exact time.

We have done all three. They all have thier good points. It just depends on what kind of day you are looking for. If you just want to go spend some time on Jost and not other spots, the ferry is just fine. By 3:00, you will have probably drank enough Painkillers :) .
Going "home" again October 26th!

Brenda is "spot on" for this one.

If you jsut want to get to Jost and spend time there then take the ferry.

BUT if you want to spend the day on the boat, stop at some cool snorkel spots and have lunch on Jost (that's usually how the chart co's roll) then go with a charter.

Keep in mind with the charter you are paying for the flexibility of the boat and should enjoy that as much as possible. But if you just want to get from point A to point B just take the ferry.
*Another fine scatterbrained production
