F the Economy Tour Report - DAY 1 Travel Day

Post by Boston Mike »

The trip to St. John for us was about no agendas and blowing off a little steam. The past couple of months have been a little rough on Boston Mike and Nicolle but it wasn’t stopping us from hitting the rock and hitting it hard. This is why I dubbed our trip as the “F” the Economy I’m going to St. John tour. To be honest with you this trip might seem like no frills to some of you but to us it was all good and one we will remember. We met some really great people on the rock and the forumites we met up with seemed like we knew them all along. So if you’re reading this looking for some good snorkeling tips and fine dining you probably won’t find it here. It is all about escaping the rat race and just going with the flow.

Hope you enjoy it!

YOR MISSION IF YOU CHOOSE TO ACCEPT IT.
Prior to leaving for St. John I was contacted by sun4mysoul. She sent me a picture of her friends Joe and Hilary and stated they are newbies that would be on the same flight as ours from Charlotte, NC and asked if we could help them getting to Red hook if they looked a little confused. Mission accepted I will seek and watch. We got you covered Otis.

FRIDAY MAY 15TH - TRAVEL DAY

Off to Boston we went for our 6 AM flight to Charlotte, NC. Arrived in Charlotte on time and decided to take Boston Nicolle for a nice romantic breakfast. I’m all about the romance man. I had the plan in place and looking to score some bonus points baby. We took our seats at the bar at Chilli’s and ordered up some over easy eggs, home fries, toast, and of course BACON. The fine wine for the breakfast was two very tall ice cold beers. That’s two each of course. Got the little wink and I was saying sweet, bonus points. (Actually a little joke between us two). We then decided to head back toward our gate to wait and board the plane. Double bonus points, there is a bar right in front of the gate. We will take two ice cold beers please. What a way to start the day. The drinking is done lets go take a seat so we can get ready to board.

What do you know its Hilary and Joe sitting right in front of us. Nicolle ask me if we should introduce ourselves and I said nah, he has one of those Carolina shirts on and the Bruins just lost to them last night. Joe you’re on your own kiddo. Boarded the plane and off to St. Thomas we go!

We arrived in St. Thomas around 3:30. We headed out to wait for our luggage and spotted Hilary and Joe again. Nope, don’t look confused yet. Can you believe it our bags are the first two out on the belt. Cha-ching things are going smoothly here today. Nicolle says should we introduce ourselves to Hilary and Joe? Nope, they got beers in hand and don’t look confused. I am sure they will be fine. Honestly we weren’t stalking them. Knowing we wouldn’t make the 4 o’clock ferry out of Red Hook, I call our contact on St. John and tell him we will be on the 5. On the taxi we went and we are off to Red Hook. Man do they know how to jam you in.

Here I am telling Nicolle this is just going way too smoothly. No screaming babies, snoring dudes, or restless chair pulling peeps on the flights down. Bags came out first one and two and we were sardine packed into the van and off we went. Man, can you feel it honey? St. john is right there.

HIT THE BRAKES BABY!

The traffic is at a standstill and wailing sirens from fire engines ahead. Oh my god I hope everything is alright up there. Taxi driver says nope, just a parade that we just happened to get behind. (Insert the Jeopardy them music here) So we are sitting and waiting and moving inches at a time. You can really feel the emotions of being in a sardine can at this point. It was hot in the van and now 5:00. Yes, that is correct we have now been on the van sitting in traffic for an hour. I can see the frustration in Nicolle. I gently rub her leg and suggest she chill a bit that St. John wasn’t going anywhere. Yes indeed, I got the finger up telling me I am number one. But hey, she ended it with a smile and a little rub on my leg. The driver finally decides to get off the main road and after a series of lefts and rights, up and down hills we arrive at Red Hook around 5:20. What do you know there are Hilary and Joe already piling into sun4mysouls jeep. Left after us but arrived before us. Nope, we’re not stalking them.

We sat at the bar at Red Hook and had a few beers and finally on the 6 ferry to St. John. Arrived on St. John and I can just feel all my problems just release from my body. Headed to Lavender Hills and did our drop the bags off, wash up a bit, and hit the Beach Bar to ring in our arrival. As we were walking down to the Beach Bar I told Nicolle that it felt like we never left this place, like we just picked up from 2008 without a skip.

Sitting at the Beach Bar enjoying a quick dinner of crab and mini burgers over numerous beers, and chatted with Red for a while. It started getting late so we went and grabbed a pizza around the corner. Had a few more drinks at the Rum Hut while we waited for our late night snack. Off we went to Lavender Hills to retire and that is exactly what we did. Opened the windows and slider doors and the breeze was just awesome that night.

I looked over at Nicolle and saw the smile on her face. I knew right then and there that she was relaxed and right where she needed to be. We have finally arrived on St. John the fire we just can’t put out.

Good night John Boy. See you in the morning.

We stayed in 5W which was awesome. Clean, updated and very comfortable. We had to move to 2W for the last two days. I would prefered to stay in 5W. We got more of a breeze and didn't even use the AC.

Love the way you write, you've got me sitting up on the edge of my seat waiting to see what happens next...and you and Nicolle are my kind of people - beer for breakfast! I'll be in that Charlotte airport in less than 3 weeks and may have to repeat your breakfast order! Can't wait to hear more.

Awesome start Mike!! Nicolle sounds like my kind of girl. Hubby does the whole trying to calm me down thing and I remind him that he's number one too!

It's all good though ;-)

Keep it rolling... I've got three weeks to kill...

Hope you're not in Charlotte on a Sunday. Bible Belt, no beer!

Love the way you write and the report was awesome. I was in stitches over the part about not introducing yourself to Joe because Carolina just beat the Bruins is so something Pete would have said and done.
