Day Trip to The Baths

Post by BasUR »

We want to take our children to The Baths this summer. We are interested in a day trip from St John. Does anyone have any recommendations?

The only boats that I know of are Pirate's Penny and Stormey Petrel. Has any one done this? What about with kids?

John and I did the New Horizons 2 charter to the Baths two trips ago, and there were kids on the boat. I think the boat seats 16 people. It goes to the Baths, then lunch at Marina Cay, then snorkeling at Guana Island (awesome!), and finally Jost Van Dyke. The kids seemed to be having a fun time. Everyone on the boat was pretty mellow--I think it would be a nice choice, if you like the itinerary.
It's like looking in your soup and finding a whole different alphabet.

We did a daytrip with Limnos out of St Thomas. It was a large catamaran with a very nice and knowledgable staff. They picked up at the NPS dock. There were several families with kids of various ages.

Docked in Spanish Bay and took taxis (open seating in back of truck) to the Baths. Kind of a hassle. Then a hike down the path to the Baths, the kids would probably enjoy this. It included the trail through to Devil's Bay. After I think we stayed maybe 2-3 hours, then back up the path, taxi back to the dock and they served lunch on the way to Norman Island for more snorkeling.

All in all a pretty good day. Returning back to the NPS before dark.

We went with Stormy Petrel in November and the trip was very enjoyable. The Captain was Galen and he narrated the trip with facts and folklore.I believe the boat holds 12 people. There were three teenagers on board and we did not stop at any beach bars in case you have concerns. In my previous trips to the Baths the boat pulled up as close to them as possible and we jumped in and swam to shore (no docks just morings)on this trip Galen and the first mate swam in with us pulling floats so if you are not a good swimmer you can hang on. We did have our snorkle equipment on and the swim is not far.He also gave us a guided tour of the Baths which the other charters did not do. I really enjoyed the Baths tour. After the Baths we went to Peter Island for lunch (you have to pay for lunch it is not included) at the Resorts Restaurant which was good. After lunch it was off to the Indians for snorkling which is the best place I have ever been for snorkling. Then it was time for the ride back to St. John. Hope this helps.
