Plan of attack for those skeeters
Plan of attack for those skeeters
Deep woods off, go to beach later in the day, head east or south, hope for wind, take floaties and head for the water and stay out there. Have a little party flowtilla thats the plan
another gorgeous day
Funny thing last night they weren't bad walking around Cruz Bay . Hope they stay away for the Beach Bar bash.

They gave us a can of OFF when we checked into Gallow's Point last night. Never had that happen before. They were heavy in the air but didn't attack us too bad. No problem walking around Cruz Bay either last night. Not sure what dusk will be like on the beach tonight though. See you guys tonight!
Going "home" again October 26th!
I did a little research on mosquitos and discovered that they're smart litle buggers. They find you through sweat, breath, body heat, movement and lack of contrast to surroundings, so unless you dress in camo, don't sweat, don't breathe, and stay still, they'll probably find you. And if you're male, overweight, and have "O" type blood, they'll definitely zero in. So, how do you fight them. Mask your scent and don't wear flourescent orange. Deet is the best, with picaridin a close second. (a combination of both was found most effective). Permethrin spray on clothing helps when they bite through your clothes. Citronella candles and citronella insense sticks helped ward them off when camping so why not on decks. Mosquitos can be fooled by the scent of citronella, eucalyptus, peppermint, cedar, soybean lemongress and geranium oils. So I'm thinking body lotion, shower wash, hair conditioner with any of those scents, plus peppermint gum or breath mints. I'm looking at this as a challenge. I'll let you now how it works out. 2 days and a wakeup!
We were in the water at the beach up to our heads and they still found us in swarms. I feel bad for complaining so much....I guess most of it is because we had our 21 month old daughter with us and she didn't know to swat them away. Plus I wasn't very comfortable covering her from head to toe in 40% DEET.
If it had just been my husband & I, I think it would have been better, but I am just a worrying mom. I would think the amount of skeeters should be starting to decline by now. They started pretty bad on Wed.
Just have your spray with ya....

That may very well work under these extreme conditions, but for us, under "normal" conditions i.e. some skeeters, no-seeums at dusk etc., the only one getting bit was my wife who was using her usual fragrant shower gel.khud wrote:Mosquitos can be fooled by the scent of citronella, eucalyptus, peppermint, cedar, soybean lemongress and geranium oils. When she switched to plain soap, only a few bites like the rest of us. Next trip she is leaving the fancy stuff at home.
When we come to place where the sea and the sky collide
Throw me over the edge and let my spirit glide

That seems logical and most of those things don't have a bad odor so I wouldn't mind having any of them on me. I know there's eucalyptus body wash & shampoo out there, probably peppermint, too. That and a little geranium oil on your pulse points and some gum might just do the trick! I'll be interested to know how your research turns out!khud wrote: Mosquitos can be fooled by the scent of citronella, eucalyptus, peppermint, cedar, soybean lemongress and geranium oils.
