Thank you for all your support with Duffy
Hey everyone,
I just wanted to let everyone know that we put Duffy to sleep yesterday morning. He was nine years old and was the absolute best pup anyone could have asked for.
We don't have kids yet so Duffy ws our "baby" and he was loved by everyone who met him. He was truly a special dog.
He was diagnosed with Lymphosarcoma around Presidents Day week-end and we opted not to give him chemo since the cancer was so involved and all of his lymph nodes were affected.
He was doing great on the prednisone until about a week ago when we noticed that his ear was in a funny position. Since corgis don't have tails their ears tell you a lot about how they are feeling. Turns out he was paralyzed on the left side of his face and his blink reflex was gone.
Over the past few days he just started looking bad and his eyes got really droopy. Yesterday morning he was wheezing so badly and we could hear him struggle for every breath and we knew it was time to take him in.
He lasted a month longer than the vet or any of us expected him to. He was such a fatastic dog and his last moments with us were very peaceful. I just didn't think it was right to wait any longer.
I wanted to take a moment to thank the forum family for all of your support. Your kind and loving messages have made this so much easier to bear.
Even though my heart is breaking right now I know that it's just a part of life and I know we did what was best for him even though it was so hard to let him go.
Duffy helped me get through the death of my father in September, 2001. For the months afterward Duffy never left my side.
My father loved Duffy dearly and despite the debate across faiths about dogs going to heaven, I know in my heart that my Dad and Duffy are just hanging out together right now and getting ready for a really long walk that includes lots and lots of treats.
Thank you again for all your love and support. Words can never express how grateful I am to each and every one of you.
Love,
Gromit

*Another fine scatterbrained production
My heart is breaking reading your post. I lost my wonderful dog Bailey just 2 months ago to osteosarcoma (bone cancer). She also helped me get through some tough times including the death of my dad in 2005. It is so hard to lose your best friend and to know that they are counting on you to do what is right. It is the worst thing in the world. I am very sorry for your loss...

I'm so so sorry. I'm at work and I teared up.
Pets ARE our family and they give you so much joy. I hope you are able to work through this.
I'm going through the same thing with my 17 year old cat Zoe. Her life is going downhill fast and I feel that it won't be long until we will have to put her down too.
I'm sorry

Oh that’s too bad. What a sweet boy. You did right.
And don’t feel weird to reach out for support from your friends and family when you get the inevitable waves of emotion out of left field weeks from now. They will understand.

When we come to place where the sea and the sky collide
Throw me over the edge and let my spirit glide

Gromit, I am so sorry.
I’m Still Here
Friend, please don't mourn for me,
I'm still here, though you don't see.
I'm right by your side each night and day,
And within your heart I long to stay.
My body is gone but I'm always near,
I'm everything you feel, see or hear.
My spirit is free, but I'll never depart,
As long as you keep me alive in your heart.
I'll never wander out of your sight.
I'm the brightest star on a summer night.
I'll never be beyond your reach.
I'm the warm moist sand when you're at the beach.
