iPhone vs Blackberry... I can't decide

Post by Lovermont »

Hey all,

As I'm getting ready for my week on STJ, my boss is getting a little freaked about me being out of touch. So, she'd like me to upgrade my cell phone to a Blackberry. I'm just wondering if I should just get the iPhone instead. Have any of you used both and have input as to which would be a better all around phone?

My boss is paying for it, so I'm not worried about the expense, unless one is wildly more expensive than the other. I'm using AT&T, so I'm pretty sure that I'll have reception on the north shore of STJ.

Any input is appreciated. Thank you!

Get a crackberry for work - an 8320 or the new Storm.
Get an iPhone for yourself.

The crackberry syncs with email and outlook, and you can forward your office phone to the device.

Others on the forum will gladly tell you about the iPhone - it was life-changing for Mrs Random.
When the going gets weird, the weird turn pro.

I like the iPhone interface better plus it's an all in one kind of phone-- great for work and play. And we all know how much we LOVE to play around here 8)

You can sync iPhone with work e-mail and contacts just like the crackberry.

Plus there's a software update coming for iPhone which adds even more functionality.

LOVE LOVE LOVE my iPhone. You never hear people say that they "LOVE" their crackberry.

Nuff said.

My vote is don't get either! Seriously, you work hard for your vacation so stay out of touch with the office - you'll be a better person for it.

I have a Blackberry pearl that is for my personal use. I do bring it but only to post facebook updates for my friends so that they can live vicarously through me.

Coverage is about 50% on the island. It's always surpirising to me where it works and where it doesn't. I have Verizon.

We're on island the same time so hope to see you at the Forum gathering on May 10th at the BB.

LOVE my iphone. I have it synced at work with my contacts and calendar and at home with my music and pictures. I also have my personal email boxes - hotmail (though an app called mBox) and my gmail account and my work microsoft outlook account all live on my iphone.

The issue that almost stopped me from getting my 1st gen. iPhone was my fear that my outlook WORK email wouldn't be syncable (probably not a word). I am not that important but I am pretty anal about being in touch. I like to be able to read and clear out my email whenever I want, wherever I am. There were some early kinks with the interface with outlook but if your work IT guy is worth anything he'll figure it out.

I cracked my 1st gen iPhone screen last Friday and had to go a 3G (woe is me). My husband (who does that IT crap for a living) is now carrying around my jacked up 1st gen iPhone, cracked screen and all, using it like an iTouch to see if he likes it. He is SOLD as soon as he's able to upgrade in June he's getting the iPhone. He's already downloaded about 30 free apps.

I really love my iphone but the only downside I see is that it is harder to type on it. For people who text a lot, the Blackberry seems preferable. My daughter almost got an iphone and is very glad she got a Blackberry instead. She kind of laughs at all my apps, which I love.

I have a Blackberry but often recommend iPhones to friends. It seems they do alot more and easier too. Next time around, I don't know which I will get, I lean towards the iPhone though.

I LOVED my Blackberry, until I switched to the iPhone.

It is a lot more fun. The Storm may be comparable, but they've had some growing pains.

Minor downsides to the iPhone. Although you can have multiple email accounts synced, you can only have one signature. So if you want your work info/phone when you email from your iPhone, all of your personal mail gets the same info. Like I said minor.

I did find the Blackberry much easier to type. Still haven't gotten the hang of the iPhone keyboard, even in landscape mode. But, who needs to type when you've got a zillion games to play :)

Hey Lovermont - I'm not sure you will get service where you are staying - North Shore tends to not get a signal from AT&T athough there was one spot where you are staying that I could get a signal but don't know if I still can with my iPhone as I have not been yet.
