SFO Dinner

Post by jimg20 »

We are heading to SFO for a convention tomorrow :) (4/28) and will be there for four nights. I was hoping to take the group to Original Joe's (OJ's), but I just found out that they had a fire and are closed. :x

Do you have any suggestions for other good places near the convention center? Further out would be OK too. We are planning on one evening at Fishermen's Wharf.

It's been YEARS since i have been there, but I really loved greens restaurant--even if you are NOT a vegetarian, you won't be disappointed--i went with a group of meat eaters and they loved it as much as i did.

It sounds like you have a group and might want something budget minded: I recall there is a Chevy's near there, tex-mex, the ingredients are so fresh it makes the simple very good. The Metreon is close, and I think they have a restaurant in addition to the food court. Or, more adventurous: try Caffe Macaroni, a small hole in the wall w/ some of the best italian, on Columbus ave, sit upstairs and watch the world go by, with nice ambiance. Also, there seems to be lots of original joes, you could always go to one further out, I seem to recall a few in SF or the surrounding area.
Enjoy.

Gordon Biersch

Post by Lovermont »

It's been nearly 20 years since I lived in the Bay Area (where I grew up) but I'll take this opportunity to plug the Gordon Biersch Brewery/Restaurant. It's located down near the Bay Bridge, so it'd be a quick cab drive from the Moscone Center (I'm assuming that's where the convention is being held.)

Dan Gordon, one of the original founders and brewmaster, is a childhood friend of mine. His ads state "Never trust a skinny brewer!" Love him!
