Is their a place to buy cigars on st thomas?
?
does anyone know if their is a place on st thomas to buy good cigars........no cheapies. are cubans available being a us territory??? can you get a deal here that you cant find stateside??? any info will help... will be on island over easter week and dont want to bring my entire humidor.........cheers,john

You cannot legally buy Cuban cigars in the USVI - they are available in the BVI should you make a trip over there.
The cigar store in Havensite in the Port of Sale section has a wide variety, some unique selections and excellent prices - I wouldn't bring more than 1 or 2 from your humidor and you may well end up stocking up on some fine examples to take home.

While I'm no cigar expert, we did buy some for gifts at Club Cigar in Mongoose Junction on St. John.

I bought a few at the cigar shop at Mongoose Junction, but they were pretty pricey compared to JR Tobacco at home. The next time, I brought a box down with me. I put the box in a giant ziploc bag because I figured the cargo hold would be pretty dry, but when we got to the villa, I just left them sitting out. I figure the environment of St. John will keep them sufficiently humidified, at least for a week, so no humidor is necessary.
As for Cubans, I'm sure you can find someone in St. Thomas who will sell you a box of counterfeit Cohibas at a sky-high price. Or you can buy the real ones in the BVIs.

Cigars travel well in a ziplock bag packed with a damp slice of cedar. I stock up at the local store in Rehoboth Beach - Arturo Fuente Double Chateau Maduro is my every-day smoke.

You can still snoop around the local island stores for some treats. I was suprised at the quality selection in a small tobacco store on the quay of Marigot harbor on St Martin.

The big AH Rise store in downtown STT has a small walk in humidor. Its right next to the liqour packing station in the center of the store. They have a pretty wide selection of good brands. I generally bring one or two and then our first day or two I usually stop there and buy a few. Prices don't seem that much cheaper than in the states to be honest though.
FYI-- I think I read that the cigar place in Mongoose was closing down. Honestly though we never found that they had great prices.
As others mentioned cuban cigars can't be legally sold in the US or its territories and I honestly wouldn't trust anyone trying to sell them in the US.
Hubby has no problem keeping the cigars he brings down in good order. Due to the humidity they do just fine in a special plastic bag placed in an otter box.

*Another fine scatterbrained production

The name escapes me but there is a store in between the Happy Buzzard and Greenhouse in town on STT. They have a walk-in humidor with a nice DR and NC selection at SUPER high prices. Per the other replies no place in the USVI that has authentic CC's for sale. Every single one I've seen in my multiple trips has been fake.
Foxy's on JVD has a small humidor with real CC's at super high prices. ClevelandDave is right...Little Denmark on Tortola has real CC's at more reasonable prices BUT for the most part they aren't well cared for and most will require resuscitation before yielding ideal smoking results. Also, make sure to check the individual cigars at Little Denmark. Some were suspect and many were damaged beyond use. Just have your wits about you and you should be fine.
Ideal solution: buy a gallon sized Zip lock bag, get a humidification agent, and bring your own.
