5 wake ups till lift off
5 wake ups till lift off
Less than 120 hours till we hope to be airborne for the islands. But its a little shakey here with the weather and a lot of flight cancelations this morning. We had an ice storm last night and forcast for 48 hours more of freezing rain. 125,000 without power in the St Louis area and it will probably get worse. Forecast is for temps to get down to 10 by Monday nite and stay that way till we leave.
I've been reading this Forum since Feb. and have been counting the days since. There has been a lot of great information and I love reading the trip reports. They often give you a WARM feeling of being there.
This is our 4th trip to the islands, our first was 25 years ago to Virgin Gorda. At that time you had to park your VW Thing in a small pasture and take a narrow trail crossing barbed wire fence several times to reach the Baths and for several hours of the day we were alone.
This trip will be to St Thomas for the first 2 days and then over to St John for 8 more staying at the Horizon's Cottage. I've read good things about it and the owner has been great to deal with.
Can't wait to get out of this weather and set foot back into the warm waters of the islands.
Thanks again for the great post.
By the way I have used baby shampoo 50/50 with alcohol for 25 years as a defoger. I use 2-3 drops and rub it in then rinse thru the water and I'm set.
I put it in a Vissene bottle and it last for ever.
I also use compact swim fins that I bought thru National Geographic and I love them. And as for the dry snorkel, yes I use that as well. Never had a problem with it and what is good about it is when you are swimming in rough seas and your snorkel isn't filling up all the time. I also use a Canon S400 with a Canon underwater housing. It works great and is simple to use as long as you follow the instructions.
Thanks for letting me bore you with this post. But, I am packed and ready. I'm also doing a little praying for the weather that we will get out of here.

Thank YOU for your post, I'm EXCITED for you! WOW, I can only imagine being at The Baths alone. Oh, the changes you have seen over the years.
Hope you'll post a trip report when you get back, or at least let us know how things have or haven't changed!
Have fun getting out of the cold and into the warmth, sun, and pretty blue water!
