Villa within waliking distant to Cruz Bay

Post by theshopper3 »

Hi,
Well, I feel a little guilty as we still have not posted our trip report from our trip in Nov and am askng for info. I promise to get to posting our report soon. I will say that we had an awesone time & are now planning a return trip with some friends.

So I am trying to find a 2 bed 2 bath villa that is within walking distance to Cruz Bay. A pool would be a bonus but not a necessity.

Unfortunatley we never made the walk up the road from where we stayed at the Bougnavilla last time to check out the other villa's that were there.

St John Ruth do you have any suggestions???
A few that we think might fit the bill are : Chez Shell, Haiku, Villa Larimar & Villa Soleil.

Thanks Ruth

Hello Neighbor,

Villa Soleil was our first choice last November, but the dates weren't available when I booked. It's located diagonally up the street from Villa boug; across from the long white wall. Couldn't really see much beyond the front door so I don't know how nice the unit is or the pool area.

You might want to look at some Star Villa properties; also located along the same street.

I was curious if the house just below Villa Bougainvillea that was on the point was a rental. No pool, but it must be nicing sitting out on that front porch/deck.

Also try Palm Terrace . The 2 bedroom unit is on the ground floor and the pool is right there! Not much of a view tho, because you are on the ground floor. But the price is right!! And it is very very new.

Walking Distance to Cruz Bay

Post by theshopper3 »

Hi,
Thanks for all the info. I have sent a few emails to check availability on the Soleil & Larimar, so hopefully one will be available.

Jaysndee: Howdy, thanks for the care package that you left on our steps, we enjoyed all the goodies.

I have seen that the house just below us is a rental. I agree the view would be great, but I wouldn't mind a pool this time.

St John Ruth, we will be back to see you to pick up some more goodies. Thanks for the info on the villa's in the Frank Bay area. As you know, contrary to popular oppinion we did great without renting a car by staying in this area.

We are so excited to be able to bring friends this time to fall in love with St John as we have.

So my next question is, what will the weather be like in late April early May??? Will there be less chance of rain?? How will the noseeums be at this time. Last time they almost ate me alive LOL.

try the folks at star villa-
http://starvillas.com/
They have many places within walking distance and at good prices. They are also very nice to deal with.

We also stayed at Tamarind (the villa not the inn). It has 3 bedrooms and is HUGE with a very large pool. A little worn from wear but probably cheaper than some of the others you are looking at. Check it out at: http://www.greatcaribbeangetaways.com/tamarind.htm

Hi Ruth,

Ok, so I think it's time for a trip report.

I think your comment about enjoying the island without a car will be good for other first timers to hear.

As you know, we only had the car for a part of our stay; and it sat in the driveway a lot of the time. We like not having to clamor for a spot in Cruz Bay or count the number of Coconut rums we have before going out to dinner or how many Bushwackers to have at the Beach bar after dinner.

Like you, we enjoyed the Frank Bay neighborhood. I did explore one day and got extremely lost - didn't know how to get back   Some of the hills in the area are quite steep - it was like skiing down black diamond slopes, but instead of on snow, it was sand.

I'm surprised that you were bothered by noseeums in November. I was surprised that I wasn't. Even with the open front of Villa Boug, we weren't overly bothered by mosquito's; only went through 1 can of spray this trip.

Any idea who rents the house below us? or the Blue Marlin place behind us. I'd like to check those out for our next adventure.

Let the trip report writing begin.

Hi Shopper3, Don't forget to check into Mahogany
Tree Villa's We stayed there with friends last year. We each had our own villa, with air in the bedroom. We each had our own deck area, even though we stayed on each others together. A nice pool with a great view and real good prices. The weather last May was perfect mid 80's. We will be back in the same villa May 13 - May 26th. Oh yeah, very clean. You can walk to town easily. Have fun.

villa near cruz bay

We have long stayed at villas/condos near Cruz Bay.
Yes you can do it without a car!

Amora...ok if you have only 2 couples. The downstairs is really like your first college basement apartment. Extremely steep uphill walk to the villa. I did it pushing a baby stroller filled with groceries. I actually lost weight on that trip. :)

Tamarind...it was ok in 2003. Just ok though. Pretty rundown. Great huge pool and pool area. The website pictures are at least 5 years outdated. I wouldn't recommend it for anyone with children (other than babies in your room). Security didn't feel great there. Most rental agencies dropped this one. I would love to own it, just wouldn't rent it again.

Blue Marlin...that is actually 2 apartments. Great if you get it for 2 couples (as long as you decide who gets upstairs first). It goes with Casa Blanca. See www.caribehavens.com. (The funny little widows walk actually looks over the Tamarind pool.)

We had friends just come back from Star Villas. They loved it for the price and convenience.

We've also enjoyed Coconut Coast Studios.

Haven't had the chance for Palm Terrace Villas. Those prices are just crazy expensive for us though. $400 a night for 2 bedrooms and not on the beach just seems wrong!

Hope any of this helps.

We've stayed in Larimar twice. Nice views off the deck. The pool is shared with 4 other places (including Cielomar and Soleil). The Gallows little store is convienient, and you can't beat the stroll to town. There is a newer listing called Frank Bay House that I'd love to hear a review about...

Hi Jayseadee,

I did check the villa on the point there & it is a rental, it is rented thru Suite St John.

Looks like the Marlin( the one at our driveway is also a rental ( Caribehavens.com)so I will check that one out as well.

Will work on the report. Thanks to my hubby for keeping a journal....

I Second mahobayb:
I've also found the Mahogany Tree Villa to be a good value close to town. We stayed 2 years ago and are staying again Feb 14- 23 this year. From the villa your about 2 hills from town. They help you walk off the nights last beer at the beach bar.
This might be a Michigan thing though, Mahobayb and I live no more than 5 minutes from each other. If you read this Mahobayb , I live in Woodhaven.
