Maho tent recommendation?

Post by positivevibration »

Well after lurking on this board for a while we jumped in and made a reservation for Maho tent camps today!!!! We will be going in May for my 40th birthday and cannot wait. I am wondering what some good choices are to put in for specific tent requests. We are bringing our 3 year old son and plan on spending most of our time at Maho. We are not renting a car- but I am under the impression that there are hikes we can go on from there and take cabs elsewhere if necessary? Thanks for any input

My favorite is A14 for the view. The As on the water side all have great views, longer walks to everything. With a 3 year old you may want to be closer to the potty and other amenities. Here's a trip report from my 2004 trips with my daughters:

I haven't been able to find an official online map of Maho Bay Campground. The question of tent-cabin locations come up routinely. So, I finally broke down and scanned the map I had from 2004. There might be some differences between this map and the one that Maho currently gives out. If you know of any please let me know.

Thank you both for your suggestions. RickG your trip report was very helpful. I will check the map for updates and try to scan/ post if necessary when I return. Thanks again

RickG, I can't tell you how many times I have read your trip report from Maho Bay over the years and enjoy it so much each time. I have been to STJ 5 times and stayed at Maho 4. Once we stayed in a villa near Coral Bay and it just wasn't the same. This year we are staying at Maho for 2 nights, VG for 5 nights and then Concordia for 2 nights. I know the camping thing is not for everyone but we really love the get back to nature thingy.

snorkles, thanks for the note. My youngest daughter and I plot to go back without the anti-campers. We're split between Cinnamon and Maho campgrounds. She's like her Dad and would opt for whatever was more fun, and Inner Visions at Maho whip's the llama's ass!
