Taxis to/from Reef Bay Trailhead?
Taxis to/from Reef Bay Trailhead?
Is it practical to get a taxi from Cruz Bay to the Reef Bay Trailhead, and more importantly, would we be able to flag one down when we're done hiking?
We're staying on St. Thomas and could bring our car over for the day, but if all we're doing that day is the Reef Bay Trail, I'd just as soon use taxis if feasible.

Hi chazz. Getting a cab to the trailhead is no problem from downtown at the ferrydock. Catching one after the hike would be hit or miss unless you called one and asked them to meet you at a certain time....or you could take a short walk to TuTu's and wait or call for a cab there. The hike is all downhill from the trail head then all back up.
There is no way to be picked up at the bottom except by boat....but that can be done by reserving your hike through the park service. It is pretty much all day if you choose to go all the way down and back by boat.
We ususally hike down to the petroglyphs then hang out for a little while and hike back up. If I remember correctly if you are in relatively decent shape that can be done easily with plenty of time to rest in 3 hours. Once you get back to the trailhead it's an easy walk (go right with your back to the trail) to the little place that used to be called Chateaux Bordeaux. It's closed now but there was also a place where you could get a cold drink (you'll appreciate that) and a beautiful jewelry stand called TuTu's. That would be a perfect place to wait for a cab.

The National Park hike is not only informative (guided, but you can hang back/go on ahead), but you get an excellent view of the southwest shore of the island along with a nice boat ride...a rare sight, as there are not many accessible spots there.
It sure beats a re-hike and waiting for a cab. I think we were back in CB by 3pm.
EDIT: This was MrB....MrsB was still logged in.

When will I see St John again?
Don't forget you can catch the bus from Cruz Bay to Reef Bay and it will cost $1.00 per person
It leaves Cruz Bay at approx 15 after the hour and "should" return past the trailhead going back to town between 30 after to 45 after the hour - as the day progresses it get's later and unfortunatley there might be an hour when it decides not to run (not always but it does happen especially Saturday afternoons) - but this is an option for you. Should the bus not come, remember hitch hiking works great (I do it myself) - just point in the direction of town and someone will pick you up - you maybe in the bed of a pick up truck - but you will get a ride

Don't count on your Verizon cellphone. We have Verizon and we were unable to get service anywhere on island except when in view of StT and only sometimes then.chazz wrote:Hopefully our Verizon cellphone will work on Centerline Road and we could call a taxi when we're ready.
