didn't someone recently post here about their experience taking the ferry to JVD for the day and what they did? Can't find it. Anyone recall the author?

I just did a few searches and I can't find it either. I have taken the ferry to Jost (over 5 years ago) but that was just to go to Foxy's. I like renting a boat or taking a daysail. You can end up at a few different spots without taking a taxi, which can be hard to find at certain times of the year.
We are doing a daysail on White Wing, out of Coral Bay. We will snorkle at Sandy Spit and then off to Jost for a little bar hopping. It is a full day, 8 hours and for under $100 a person, it is a great deal in my book.

I was on STJ in December (2nd - 9th) and we took the ferry to JVD. I think it left from CB around 8:30-9:00 a.m. We had to stop in Tortola for customs, but it was pretty quick. As I recall, the ferry ran Fridays through Sundays, at a cost of $50.00 per person. We were dropped off in Great Bay (near Foxy's) and then we took a taxi to White Bay for the day. We had to be return by 2:30 - 3:00 to catch the ferry back. We did a daysail to JVD on a previous trip and didn't feel that we were able to spend enough time on the island so opted for the ferry this time around. It was a great day and I would definitely do it again.

I don't remember reading it here, but there is a ferry on limited days.
We did a day trip from Tortola last year. The ferry drops you off in Great Harbour; there were taxi's waiting. We taxied to White Bay and spent the day by the Soggy Dollar Bar and Sandcastle. It was off-season (November), so we were able to use the Sandcastle lounges without upsetting any guests.
The taxi driver left us his card for pickup. when we were ready the bartender gave him a call. We had him drop us off at Foxy's (we had the whole place to ourselves) for some painkillers and shopping. From Foxys it was a short walk back to the ferry dock.
JVD is a quiet little island. White Bay is a beautiful stretch of beach. I don't think it would be too expensive to hire a taxi for an island tour - it's not that big.
Captain Phil does a day trip. I think there is one snorkel stop and then a nature walk on Jost; not sure how much time is available to spend on White Bay. You could check on his website: www.waywardsailor.net.
enjoy,
