Charleston, SC - good eats?

Post by LC »

I used to be lucky enough to live in Charleston...but now only lucky enough to visit occasionally. :D

Hubby and I are taking a 3 day weekend to play tourists, and was wondering if anyone has been recently and has recommendations on dining downtown? I know the old standards are still there, but have heard there are a lot of newcomers to the scene. Not really interested in southern or "new south" cuisine - it's wonderful, but I grew up in the south so leave that stuff to the expert, my mama. :D But would love some great seafood/french/italian.

TIA!

Also, Jestine's was awesome.

Again, it was at least 8 years ago!

The restaurant Slightly North of Broad [snob] is owned and operated by Chef Frank Lee and his family - he features what he calls 'maverick cuisine' - puts out an excellent meal and has a novel menu - well beyond typical - although his shrimp and grits are mighty fine too.

The current issue of Southern Living has a great article about restaurants in Charleston.

Have fun!
