snorkeling location specifics

We will be making our third trip to STJ in 2 months. In the past, there has been some specific info on specific snorkle sites that I haven't done, but now I can't find them. In the past, someone said there was great snorkeling arount the points of Trunk bay. If facing the beach, was the great snorkling to the left point or the right. Also Chocolate hole has been mentioned. Where and how? We went there once, but didn't find much of a beach, and the area was full of boats. But I've also heard there's great snorkeling. Do you head out through the boats? I guess I need more details. It didn't look snorkle friendly to me. Any other good, not too scary,(deep,dark water)off the beaten path places? Thanks

Chocolate hole Like to start at the little beach head out the left side as you are looking out go all the way to the point if it isn't to rough go around the point aways. If I,m not to tired I'll cross the mouth of the bay and do the other side back in the good stuff starts about half way out of the bay on both sides left is better then the right.

take a kayak and get over to hurricane hole and snorkel the mangroves--very shallow snorkel, but really interesting stuff!
of make a day of it and go out with Long distance and have them take you over to the tektite site then over to hurricane hole.
Robin has terrific knowledge of what is out there

I second LONG DISTANCE with Robin and Rick. Robin can point out things you don't even see. Her trained eye sees way more than I would have seen on my own. Spetacular snorkeling! Wonderful day with Long Distance.

If you're into going over to the other side of the island; the eastern side of Little Lameshur Bay has a nice reef (saw an octopus there one year) and the western side of Kiddle Bay. Kiddle Bay is a cobblestone beach, a little rough to get to but worth the seclusion and good snorkeling, very nice reef with lots of great rock formations, swim throughs if you free dive. We also scuba Kiddle Bays' reef cuz there's so much cool stuff to see. Both bays have sandy and sea-grass areas in the middle. I've seen lots of rays and turtles in both bays.
