Hey Wonderlost,

I was curious, are you a band member? I'm a guitar player and I've been wondering what gigging is like in the islands. You know, types of gigs, pay, what type of music is popular...etc..

Any insight would be great.

Cid

Cid,
Yes I am a band member and a musician on St John. Lots of gigs for small set ups, 2 or 3 piece dinner style. Some gigs for bands. I think the general vibe is any music that is not offensive. We play groove music.

Pia - We are not a loud band, you should come check it out, I bet you would like it. Island blues hires us from 8-11. Dont know what to say about that except call the bar, dont blame the bands, they are just doing what they are asked (paid) to - bring people in and have a good time. Plus, the only cultural experience we have going in the evenings is live music, which is good for tourism. Nearly all of the folks I talk to on the boat ask "where can we go see live music" and "where can we go out to eat". Ultimately, I think it is up to us locals to make the experience as good as possible for the tourists. Which to the people I service, generally means the well rounded experience; Pristine natural days, good night life and dining and peace and quiet at a reasonable hour. Your hour is 10:30, Island Blues is 11, Beach Bar is 12... Personally, I think 11 in Coral Bay is totally reasonable, but I fully respect your 10:30. See you there??
