Taking food

OK – I’m confused (Oh what a surprise you say). Can you carry-on frozen food in one of the wheelie type coolers, meaning – will it get pass the TSA guys. Or, should I check it.

Jorge – I think you said that you took some food. Did you check it or carry it on?

I wonder if the TSA rules are more enforced at different airports. I don’t mind them taking my toothpaste – but a filet mignon and grouper are a different story.

I really think you need to check it. Frozen liquids (food) don't seem to be allowed. Even if they're frozen solid, they'll still show up o nX-ray and yuo could be forced to check it.

I'd check it. I would hate to show up at the airport, try to carry on and then know that the security people were having a BBQ out back with my steaks.

I'd check it. Wouldn't your ice packs/gel packs etc. count as part of the liquid ban they are enforcing? I don't know if I would give them an excuse to confiscate your nice steaks and shrimp, etc.

Maybe I've just been lucky, but we've always checked bags, and with John the sherpa as my traveling companion, we always will. I can't remember waiting for more than 15 minutes for the bags to come out on the luggage carrell at STT, which is more than I can say for Logan!

I've done it both ways depending how much I'm carrying if I'm carrying on I freeze it and put into two of those cold bags you get at the supper market and put into my duffle. If I have alot I pack it in a soft sided cooler with tecnhi ice.

Hey waterguy! I was just nosing around on the Techni Ice website and couldn't decide how much to buy. I have a soft-sided "wheelie" cooler and I'm wondering if I need to line the entire thing with Techni Ice??

I have a 48 quart soft side polar bear cooler I put 4 sheets in and every thing has always been frozen even once when it was lost till the next day.

Cal Girlie. Since we travel from the same place you'll be happy to know that this is all I do.

Freeze the meat. Freeze two bottles of water. Place water on bottom. Be sure to release a bit out or it might explode. Put one of those Blue Ice frozen doohickies on the top. Top off with a grimey tee shirt you want to throw out. Everything will be frozen when you get there.

That blue doohickey will be useful for drinks and food to the beach.

Neat! I already have blue ice "doohickeys" and a closet full of t-shirts that are ready for the rag bag. The techni-ice sounds very neat though if it stays cold so long!

Certainly not a gallon. Just a couple of bottle to act as a coolant. A gallon is definitely too much

Ahhh... a Physics test! Does water weigh the same frozen as it does liquid?

We checked our cooler this past trip and it worked out great. Along with the meat we put a couple of bottles of frozen water. The water can come in handy if you get stranded at the ferry dock for 2 hours Just pull out a bottle and it's thawed out in no time!

Fly non-stop from Florida – you have to be kidding. You have to live in an important city to fly non-stop. Tampa does not qualify as important (unless your going to the Out Back Bowl). Nope – we fly through either Miami or San Juan.
