Well, it is off topic, but could be on topic if I am trying to get ready for a bikini in St. John, right?
I seem to be a little behind on making a new years resolution. Have any of you found a good way to lose weight?
It use to be easy for me--I loved to exercise and prefer low fat foods. I still prefer low fat foods but don't love to exercise anymore. I have a thyroid problem and have had a little trouble lately regulating it. Last appointment it was really off and I will go back next month to check if the current med. (armour) is working.
Also, have any of you done the hormone tests and used bioidenical hormones??
TY

Back in July, Marcia and I went on the South Beach diet. We each lost 20 pounds. The weight has stayed off and eating healthier has just become a way of life. We don't really feel as though we are on a diet anymore.
We liked the South Beach because the initial weight loss can be dramatic. I lost something like 10 pounds in the first two weeks.

I'm a Weight Watchers success story as well. Congratulations Sailorgirl!!
I lost 55 lbs about 4 years ago and have put 10 of it back on. BUT, it changed my eating habits for life. I did it online and found it so easy. I still have the points calculator and use it often.
The excercise is another story, I just started walking; which led to bike riding, which led to me having more energy. It's really true what they say about excercising. Once you start you really do feel more energized! I'm back at the "diet" part again, I have 20lbs to lose.
I too am interested in the bioidenical hormones. I'm going to talk to the Doc when I see her this spring.
Good luck and pm me if you want any more details about Weight Watchers!!

I'm in the weight watchers crowd. I lost about 30 pounds in 2007 on the points program - online only, no meetings and have kept most of it off. (You know, the holidays!) I learned that my portion sizes were far too big and that exercise really isn't all that bad! I recommend it.

I'm a life long yo-yo'er, but had good successs with South Beach about 5 years ago and have kept many of the eating habits and not gained all of the weight back (~10 of 35 lbs back).
South Beach is great if you can get through the first 2 weeks. For the long haul, I found keeping white pasta (I'm Italian) and Italian bread to a real minimum was difficult, so I now try to follow a loose Weight Watchers diet. Their Core was similar in many ways to South Beach, except you had those 35 "cheat" points. I recently checked on-line and I don't think they do the Core any longer.
In addition, I found "exercise" about a year ago. I still hate going to the gym, but found that I do feel much better and have energy. It also allows me my weekend cheats without gaining weight. I made it through this holiday season with only one pound gained!
Good Luck!

If you are into cleansing (or just wanting to be healthy) I sell and use Isagenix - fabulous products, healthy, amazing weightloss, used by atheletes as well as us "normal" folk (well we know were not normal here right
)
Last August I had to dance infront of about 1500 people and since I had retired in 1996 I wanted to look at least mildly in shape (for my age
) - 11 days on the Isagenix program and 12 lbs off - and it "mainly" has stayed off unless I go crazy.
I also have degenerative disk disease in my back and neck and since taking their products have been as pain free as I can possibly be - same result as when I was having steriod spinal injections.
Let me know if you are interested.

Too funny, Joshie. I use to low carb--and I was a CHEAP date. Maybe because I changed drinks to use lower carbs and maybe because I didn't have any carbs in me to absorb the calories?? I don't know. I use to drink absolute vodka and tonic and would be buzzed on one drink and trashed on three. After a few embarrassing nights out I learned to pace myself!!
My theory--if you are low carbing pace yourself or you will be the one dancing on the tables.
I just joined weight watchers on line and also joined a challenge. Thank you all!
Pete, WW has changed and focuses on "filling foods". I think the filling foods are SB type foods--seems to incorporate both SB and calories.
Pia, do you have a website for me to look at to learn more??

Thank you Gina, for bringing up this topic. I started a diet 3 days ago and gained 3 lbs.
I obviously need to try something different. I am going to see what the masses have had the most success with, and give it a whirl. I have to be honest.....giving up my evening glass of wine, or three (
again) is a bit hard for me.
