Italy TR part 1 just the fight man

Post by waterguy »

Well here is my Italy trip report part 1

Hope I don't bore you all.
It was the 2 of us Kathleen and me Tom AKA Waterguy
We got a email from the travel agent telling us our fight was moved from a 3:00 pm departure to a 10:00 pm departure. So we started to change our plans about when we would go to ORD. Friday night before our departure Kathleen called the airline to check out if everything was still a go. Flight was moved back up to 3 so we left home about 9 am we are just getting thru Milwaukee when the phone rings travel agent just informing us that our plane leaves at 3 tell her that if we didn't call in there wouldn't of been time for us to make it. It is a 4 hr drive for us to ORD. Get checked in go to our gate it is packed with a HS band going to Rome for the new years day parade. We are sitting there when we her someone screaming at the top of her lungs so I head over to the check in counter her is the Airline employee yelling at everyone that our plane is delayed 2 hours so we have time to get something to eat. Someone asks her why shes yelling she say she doesn't like talking in the microphone and if we will let everyone know who couldn't hear her. We spread the word and try to find a better place to sit the next gate is empty and has a window so we move over there. About 10 min. later looking through the glass I notice our old gate is emptying out so I walk over and ask what is going on find out the flight has been canceled. And we have to go out of security to try and rebook. So buy the time we get there the line is huge. Try calling the travel agent no luck call the airline and they won't help. Stand in line for about 2.5 hrs They re book us on a Air one Flight that they are holding but tell us to run as they are getting ready to close the door. So we have to go back through security have to throw out our water we bought on the other side before run to the gate and get on the plane where they tell us that they are going to have to restock the plane because they weren't expecting this many people. So we wait 1.5 hours for that to happen also this flight is going to Milan instead of Rome. Well we finely take off they come around and we get a sandwich and a glass of something to drink. The stewards are not seen for the next 7 hrs everyone is dying of thirst try going to the back of the plane know body around tried ringing for them no luck they show back up way the pilot comes on and says they are descending. Could of used those bottles of water. They have someone meet us at the plane and take us to their ticket counter where we stand in line again. We met Jon from Chicago who spoke fluent Italian he befriended us and got us thru the system we had 6 hrs to kill so we went up to a fine dining restaurant in the airport had a great meal with good conversation with Jon his parents are retired in Rome and He grew up there his dad worked form CBS over there. We got on the flight and made Rome but our luggage didn't. So Jon helped out with the luggage claims since his didn't make it either. Took the train to Termini station. and caught a cab from there Make sure you use the white cabs with the numbers on them as they are price controlled the other ones can charge what they want. We get to our hotel it is 10 at night the next day so we just pass out. We agree to sleep in the next day..

Next up St Peters and the Vatican museum .
Tom

Ps there will be a lot of pictures from here on in.

Good grief!! I hope the rest of your trip was worth that travel day. What happened to those flight attendants? Where did they go?

Hi Cyp.

From what I could figure out they had bunks in the back that were covered by curtains so they were sleeping the whole flight.

At first I read it as "bucks in the back".

That would make sense too. NO more for me to drink.
