My trip was actually to the British Virgin Islands, but you St. John junkies will recognize some familiar sights in the first few shots. We landed in St. Thomas and then took an Air Sunshine flight from there to Virgin Gorda. In the process, we flew right down the Sir Francis Drake passage (along the north side of St. John) and had a spectacular view of the North Shore beaches just before sunset.
The rest of the trip was spent at Guavaberry Spring Bay on Virgin Gorda (8 nights) and on Marina Cay (3 nights). I took my wife, her brother, and my 2 year old son. This trip was a fantastic time, especially considering that we had no plans to go 6 weeks ago.
Anyway, I hope you enjoy looking at the pictures as much as I enjoyed taking them. Happy to answer any questions about Virgin Gorda or Marina Cay should anyone be interested.

What did you think about Saba Rock. I remember the days when it was just "The Pirate's Pub"... well maybe remember is not the best way to put it since lots of alcohol was always involved
!!!! I am reminded of it when the weather turns wet by a throbbing in my big toe, broken and untreated of course, which I owe to a fall I took down some stairs on the way to the Loo!

Nothing like going down in the morning to capture the lighting and shadows at Spring Bay. Nice. Did VG seem busy? Was GB pretty booked up?
Looks like the same Air Sunshine pilot we had. He has a deft touch with that plane (I try to ignore how old their equipment seems!)

OK - I'll try to answer some questions here.
Loved Saba Rock. I actually thought about staying a couple of nights there on this trip, but the inclusion of the 2 year old squashed that idea. We spent a couple of afternoons there. The first when we rented a powerboat from Leverick Bay and the second we just went back for lunch on their ferry. It is beautiful and incredibly serene and the trade winds blow constantly on the north side away from the restaurant. We'll probably go back and stay a couple of nights in the future.
Processing - yes, there is some post processing involved, but not much. If you have a good polarizer (mine is a B+W that I bought several years ago) and shoot in the right conditions (between about 10am and 2pm - after lunch seems to be better) and in the right directions (not into the sun), you will get most of the color. The rest comes from the RAW conversion program you use (Bibble for me) and some tweaking in Photoshop. Happy to discuss further offline if you are interested.
Guavaberry was pretty full as best I could tell. I know they are having tough times in the islands right now due to the economy. Everyone we talked to who worked there told us the holiday season was down this year and they have lots of openings in the next couple of months. It is always slow between New Years and about Jan. 15, but this year apparently has been even slower than normal. VG was not busy, but I don't think it ever really is. We spent many mornings on Spring Bay with nobody else there which is extremely cool.
The Air Sunshine flight was great. My dad is a pilot and I fly alot with him, but this was a fantastic view and a great way to arrive on the island. The approach to the Virgin Gorda airport is cool and was pretty exciting with the severe cross-wind we had that day. Lots of turbulence as we popped over the south side of the island, but overall a great experience. Wish I could fly there everyday!
