villa without dryer?
villa without dryer?
we are looking at a villa and it doesnt have a dryer. UGH.
I dont like the sound of that at all. Hubby says no problem. I say, we will have to pack twice as much.
Have any of you rented villa with washer only and did the stuff dry out? To me it seems like there are enough night time rain showers that this could be a real problem.
I don't like crispy clothes or towels either....

The villa we rented last June did not have a washer or dryer. Luckilly there were plenty of beach and bath towels. We washed our bathing suits out in the sink or shower and hung them in the bathroom to dry.
We packed just enough other clothes for the week. Washer/dryer is nice, but not a must in my opinion.

I guess I'm higher maintenance than you, Ksea. The first trip we made to STJ...........years and years ago we rented a house that had a washer and dryer but the dryer didn't work. We had quite a bit of rain and I remember trying to get our beach towels to dry out and what a pain that was. Ever since then a dryer is a big deal for me.
yes, I just told Ned the dryer is a deal breaker. he doesnt get it.
He is calling me a princess, I don't think that is asking much....I am saying I WANT to do laundry!
(thats wierd...)
I would rather have a dryer than a hot tub. And I LOVE hot tubs!
I just cant imagine if there aren't enough towels...plus we will be at the westin at the end of our trip (free nights) and I do NOT want to be dealing with wet stuff there. Can you imagine wet stuff in a bag for 3 nights....those rooms at the westin dont even have bathroom fans....

I rented a house without a dryer once. Turned out the owner of the villa owned the laundry service on STJ, so when I balked, they said they would do all our laundry gratis, no problem.
I got home and saw my credit card was charged 40 dollars for two missing towels.
ugh.
It was all very inconvenient.

Did you confirm with management that there is no dryer? I find it odd that there would be a washer and no dryer! I wouldn't like that either. We stay 10 days and pack light knowing we can wash/dry everything. Plus I always launder everything the night before we leave so I don't have dirty clothes when we return. Coming home is bad enough without having laundry to do right off!!
yes, we called, they said it was a waste of power and not really needed!
just not worth it, we would save maybe $400, maybe not even that much. I would be on edge the whole time, have to nag my kids about clothes on the floor or wiping them up while they eat icecream or whatever.
We finally learned how to pack light and this would ruin it.
i figure they deserve at least one week a year without me all over them for every little thing!

Our upcoming trip will the the first time we've had a washer/dryer. Except for last year in STJ villa, which did not have W/D, we've always stayed at hotels or resorts. As I pile up my clothes for this trip I keep the W/D in mind, trying very hard not to overpack. We hope to check only one medium-sized bag with snorkel/scuba gear and large stuff, plus two carry-ons. Wish me luck.

No dryer? No problem. Line drying works well. But, we don't wash our towels even if there is a dryer, unless there is an accident.
When we travel outside of the US we pack light, bring woolite packets and wash clothes in the hotel sink.
When we've stayed at Maho half of our packed luggage was a towel! Starting out with a single bath and a single beach towel is a luxury.
But, this is coming from a guy who started his Caribbean visits sleeping under a palapa in a hammock for $7 per night.
Cheers, RickG
