golf/st. thomas
although we always go to st. john, we've got a chance to use some marriott points in feb, which will put us on st. thomas...it'll be a 1st for us. my husband is an avid golfer so just want any info regarding the course on st ?? any golfers here to help me ?? how's the course ? worth bringing the sacred
clubs !!?? also any reviews / heads up on marriott frenchmans reef ?? appreciate any input !!

I can't speak to the golf on St. Thomas but Cindi and I stayed one night in the Marriott (using marriott reward points) in 2004.
The hotel lobby and grounds were very nice but the room itself and some parts of the hotel was a little older than I expected and run down a bit but they were doing construction at the time so it may be better now. Staff was helpful and very friendly and the pool was excellent!
Depending on how busy they are you may be able to get an upgrade because you are using points, we were upgraded to a HUGE suite that overlooked Charlotte Amalie, was quite a nice view! There are a few pictures of the hotel on our pbase page (see link in signature)
Ohh, they also have a water taxi that will take you to the docks at Charlotte Amalie where are the shops are. Nice little boat ride!
Have any other questions I can answer let me know..but I'm sure someone else here has stayed there since 2004 and will have a fresh opinion on the Marriott!

I stayed at Frenchman's Reef in May '05 and I'd say robncindi's take on it is pretty accurate. Our room was a little shabby, in fact we had to change rooms because in the first room, the ice maker ran constantly and never made any ice. I didn't care about the ice, but the constant grinding noise was enough to make you crazy! The second room was nicer, but it still had issues here and there that I don't expect when I pay that much for a hotel room.
On the other hand, their little gourmet market is great for a quick bite to eat, the breakfast buffet is pretty nice, but I don't remember eating dinner there. We mostly went to Coco Joe's down on Morningstar Beach. The food was very good, though a little pricey (but where is it not?) and the ambience and friendly servers made it worth every penny!

The only time my husband has played Mahogany Run was a corporate retreat and he rented clubs and expensed it. My husband did not enjoy the course and it was not in very good condition, most of the Carribean courses have sandy greens. I asked him for you if he would play it again and he said "No", he plays enough golf in the States that St John is for Limin Time
