Errrghhhhh it's REALLY cold and the cat is insisting on going out (and he can be REALLY annoying--like i am going to scratch the couch up until you open the door annoying)
but it is SO cold.....
do any of you limit when your cats can go out ( in terms of temperature)

It's been colder than usual here (not as cold as everwhere else, though!) and our cat INSISTS on going out first thing in the morning. We let him out for a little bit then make him come back in. But we figure it's because he's a long-haired Norwegian Forest Cat and it's in his blood to like the cold weather. (at least that's what we tell ourselves - LOL!)

yeah, i know! really--but he is my adolescent bad boy--what a PAIN! he has ripped up the underside of the couch (it is SHREDDED) won't use a scratching post and INSISTS on going out--it;s pathetic (both him and me letting him)--usually he wimps out and comes back in. I wouldn't let him out tonight and the couch scratchy battle ensued-- (and we have TWO litter boxes since my old lady is VERY particular--Saltydog wrote:I won't even tell you a very sad story ......
Tell him to use a litter box....and get over IT !!!!

We've trained both of our cats (brothers) to stay in the fenced patio. They're very good about it, although once in a while we catch Jack jumping up on the fence. And we always keep an eye on them. We have coyotes and it's criminal to let a cat out to roam around... they always end up as some coyote's dinner. 
zoiks, coyotes... we dont have them much around here--but our cats have always been indoor/outdoor....nothing major to get a cat ('cept a skunk and that just stinks)
normally i always keep them in in really cold weather
but my bad boy is a pain. and really lets you know ALL about it.....anyway, he is IN for the night now.

I have 3 cats. One never goes out, one is a kitten, so she doesn't know what's outside and then there is Tiki.
Since the weather has been cold, he is aloud to go out in the morning. Thing is, Tiki knows it's cold outside and he only stays out for about 10 minutes. He also knows the kitten is inside and he can play.
When it's getting dark, he knows he's in for the night.
Show your cat who's boss and get him/her on a schedule. It takes time, but it's worth it.
Tomorrow is a high of 18. Tiki will not go out at all.
